From my first hand experience, finding a 99-00 head can be very difficult. The head is commonly sought after by NA miata owners, as it's an easy plug-in swap good for 10-15whp or to go for bigger power with forced induction (typical combination is '95 block for its lower compression and 99-00 head for its superior air flow). I was shopping for one for a couple of years for my old miata. It was incredibly difficult to find a complete head in good condition, refurbished or used. In the end it was easier to just buy a used 99-2000 motor.

If you get lucky, you may find a core but I if you just want to get back on the road quickly, you just might want to repair the head. :(

If you are looking for an NA head or 2001 or later, you chances of finding a core are much higher!!!
