I was thinking more along the lines of spectators, police, that sort of thing. Given that the average LBPD officer is a bit mercurial, it wouldn't take much crowd stupidity for there to be a big negative report on the mayor's desk the following Monday.

While I agree that would be funny, it "might" hurt our chances of using the facility after them.... Autocross while wearing a life vests would be weird!

Probably the main reason the drift event is there, BIG MONEY. The city can absorb a lot of inconvience and negativity from police and other support groups if the income is big enough. I'm sure they are paying way more than we'd ever be able to consider. Of course we don't require any support from the city and generally leave places the way we found them, with the exception of a little tire rubber. Definitely somthing we should pursue.

Ain't gonna happen guys. Shortly after the drift event, work will being to transform that area into a working pier. Unless things change, the Harbor Dept and City of Long Beach will not entertain any future events on the site. I got the word from Tasha at the Long Beach Special Events Department after perusing the matter. Sorry

That's too bad. City sees 24-7 revenue, hard to compete with that.

i'm unsure how that works. I look out the window every day, and it's rare to see all the lifts working on loading and unloading. those are the ones that are close to the open water, where i assume the channel would be deeper.

the new site is further in, and kinda out of the way. i don't see why they'd spend the money to upgrade when they're not (or at least doesn't appear to be) operating near capacity.

maybe there's plans to hook it up to better rail lines or something.

I know, it seems like development could wait. Maybe they're going to make it into a container farm; would make sense if the railroads are cutting trips.

well i'll be damned. just looked out the window, and that giant lot is probably 1/4 full of cars.

i wonder when that happened.

The shocking part is seeing Japanese carmakers with inventories over 45-60 days. Last year, Chrysler was carrying 3-4 mos. of some dud models like the Compass, Patriot and Sebring.

Didn't see any reports on it ... I wonder how it went? Looks like they aren't wasting any time turning it into a storage facility.

Pretty good barometer of retail expectations.

When aluminum, copper, steel and wood pulp prices start rising consistently, the economy will be moving toward growth. Otherwise, the bottom isn't here.
