We are all concerned Bob. There's no hidden agenda. We need committed bodies to make it happen. Last year we were stretched pretty thin.
Well, to get committed "bodies" the first thing you need is committed leadership. This ...
There is debate going on right now whether we should continue this support or not. Our concern is the struggle to get volunteers to work the event.
... sounds like less than committed leadership.
Instead of trying to control the discussion here, perhaps, George, you should reword your statements.
For the record, I've been there all three years, including three days this year: Presentation Judge, Dynamic Grid Chief.

Is it my imagination, or is there a little bit of overreacting going on here? Geez.

You guys crack me up!!
Its obvious that many of us are so into FSAE WEST and supporting it that we wind up tripping over each other trying to promote it....
I think we really reached critical mass this year. Third times the charm as they say...and we will continue to improve.
It has definitely not been not been without challenges, but we had, as usual, really good people involved that made the difference.
our SCCA group (CSCC along with the Cal Club Road Racing Safety Crew) is seen as the one of if not the best dynamic event coordinators in all the FSAE comps (that's WORLD WIDE mind you!!)
I am still all in and it is great to hear that Renee George Bob Bill Marshal, Christine, rick, lisa, steve, gayle, john... pant pant.... and many others are too!!
does CSCC HAVE to be involved in FSAE....no, but that's like saying do we NEED to autox??
these cars can go 0-60 in under 4 seconds corner at 1.5 gs + and usually brake SPECTACULARLY trying to do so.
We have the best seats in the house, and support a great event just doing what we do already...
So if your new to FSAE, pay no attention to Exstrand rants and the like, come on out and be a part of a great event, in a bigger than yourself kinda way!!
We, the organizers, commit to making it worth your while to do so....
cheers,
Ian

Hey steve, he spelled your name with an "x." Does that mean you're, like, Xtreme and hip now? ;)

Sounds like it. I'll go on record in favor of us hosting the event too. That doesn't change our responsibility to check with our members before signing a contract though, as KJ mentions.
Frankly I think with a little advance planning we can make this the smoothest run, best FSAE West event yet.

Ian nailed it with the "we've reached critical mass" comment. In somethings it gets harder to find volunteers because of burnout or malaise. I think with this event, the word spreads how cool and exciting the event is and you HAVE to be part of it!
DON'T GET LEFT OUT!

The "ex" thing was an uninteded late night typo, but funny the next day....
For anyone interested in the "details" of FSAE, the 2009 FSAE rules have been released

Yeah, it's a worthwhile duty to take on. It is the future of the sport of autocross as well with many of these ex-FSAE'ers becoming members here and elsewhere. So think of this as promoting YOUR sport (being in essence a word-of-mouth sport and all).
The only reason I said I won't be there (worked the last two years), is that I no longer live there and certain logistics are getting in the way....like 1600 miles or so.
So, have at 'er.....support this event!

Not that I think there is any opposition, just due diligence on the part of the Chairman-elect that we not get in trouble financially, but just to put my two cents in...
This is is a wonderful, exhausting, worthwhile, tough, awesome, tiring, rewarding and thoroughly worthy event - the innovation, hard work and enthusiasm shown by the teams makes one feel really good about oneself as you do your little bit to help make it happen.
I hope we can make it happen another year; if for no other reason, I want to make it 3 for 3 as Fire marshall Bill!

We should have a water can on hand also to spray the driver. ABC compound does nothing to cool anything off. Learned that from one of the firefighters who was on duty at the track.

Great idea on the water. Critical on burns to cool the area as fast as possible to reduce the cooking time.

I'm definitely in for Sat., assuming I'm in town. Getting dates soon would help make sure it gets on people's calendars. I can hardly wait!

We hope to get the ball rolling on the collecting of volunteers soon. Just be patient, you will defiantly see information on how to sign up here on the board.

I refuse to vote until we at least find out what weekend the event will be held...

If I'm not already tied up with judging, I'll definitely be volunteering both days.
