I've been looking at those, too. What gives me pause is the cost of repairs on one when things go wrong, especially when compared to a Honda S2000 or a Miata. Might as well be driving an exotic! :unimpressed:
Depending on the year you get they have a 50k mile or 36k mile bumper to bumper warranty. They all get a 60k mile power train warranty, and 100k mile engine warranty. You can also buy OE parts at deep discount from the Mazda competition parts dept. imho this is not a car with a high cost of ownership.

It is also very easy on tires, and cheap to setup for B Stock.
How many runs do you typically get on a set of 710's, Jason?

Thanks for posting that Pat. I went looking for that information on the site and couldn't find it; was pretty sure the MS restriction had been dropped. They're closed for the holidays, until Monday I think.

Pat O'Neal wrote:Just to clarify about the Mazda S-Plan: it is now open to everybody (with Mazdaspeed member referral) and there are no restrictions on which car you buy. Meaning, Mazdaspeed 3s and 6s are also eligible. There was no termination date specified in the email I received on 12/4/08. I tried calling their phone number but they are closed today, apparently. According to that email:

If anyone wishes, I'd be happy to pass on an S-Plan PIN. Here is the product eligibility page.

That is nice that they opened it up to everything except the Hybrid now.

I would take that as previous model year close outs, not used cars.

That's good to know. I've had my eye on them ever since I drove one at the Zoom Zoom Live event a couple of years ago. Really cool car - just wish the gas mileage was better.

Its a lot about how you drive it. I get 21mpg on the freeway, not great, but better than our Expedition. :unimpressed:

I agree about the mileage - that was the killer for me when I was considering an RX-8. Our Odyssey gets 24mpg on the freeway!

Don't count on the new wrx being an ESP car.

My 7000lb dually can get 21mpg on the freeway.

Early boxsters are pretty cheap. I remember a certain Swedish dude talking all evil like about how cheap and fast a Boxster SM2 could be made out of an early plain jane one.

Are seven-year-old WRXs really going for $15K?!? I can get a brand new one for $25K; is seven years of use/abuse on a turbocharged engine really only worth $10K? Big fat pass.

That one is definitely priced optimistically! Should be around $10K I think for a 2002. They do hold their value pretty well - the tough thing is finding an unmolested one.

With the Cayman on the same line as the Boxster it would make a pretty good BSP car too.

Imagine an early Boxster with all the update/backdates including the new direct injection 3.4L from the Cayman and a nice Ohlins suspension :heyes:

Don't Ohlins cost more than the car?
