Years ago, Michael Palin of Monty Python fame, did a series where he traveled round the world. He took a high-speed container ship from Japan to the West Coast. Only took about four days. When the ship was fully loaded it sat pretty low in the water.

Does the change make any difference? I remember years ago they thought up various changes to the points system. They went back in time and applied the various proposals to past results. I think in only one year did it make a major change.
Cool that Honda has gone from Out to BRAWN and being on top of the Pile. At the end of the last test session before the first race, Alonso topped the two Brawn/Mercedes drivers.

Keep in mind that development on the Brawn car started about the middle of last season when it was clear the '08 Honda was not worth working on. Plus, the usual caveat, testing is not quali or race pace.

But with their fate in limbo for so long, it's surprising that the money was still there for development on a car that had no sure future. I thought I remember a lot of people being laid off. Perhaps too many cooks before, allowed the few brilliant hard working ones that were left to really get some work done.

The FIA's world motor sport council meeting in Paris rejected a proposal put forward by the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) to change the scoring structure to a 12-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 points format from the existing 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.
Way to go FIA... make it confusing...
I agree that the winner of the most races should be the champion, but come on, could they not put some research into it and come up with a points system that would reflect that...
BTW, as I recall the points system we have had for several years was suposedly created because MS was winning too much so make it harder for him to be champion...

Yeah, but they started work on the new car in the middle of last season, long before Honda pulled out and before the current testing limitations came into play.

Looks to me like because the FOTA is united over the scoring system issue, the FIA/Mosley has nothing to gain so he is OK with a quick change.
On the other hand, the diffuser issue that there has been complaints about for over a month, and there now is a "detailed objections" submitted, FIA/Mosley is doing nothing, because he sees it as an opportunity to cause tensions between the teams in the FOTA over the issue.

This is just too bad as I want to see a good and fair race in Melbourne and have the results stand afterwards.

The real reason... FIA-WMSC/Mosley did not have a choice but to undo the change:
"The amendment to the sporting regulations proposed by the WMSC was not performed in accordance with the procedure provided for by Appendix 5 of the Sporting Regulations and, as per the provisions of article 199 of the FIA International Sporting Code, it is too late for the FIA to impose a change for the 2009 season that has not obtained the unanimous agreement of all the competitors properly entered into the 2009 Formula One Championship.
"Since the change to the scoring system unanimously agreed by the teams and proposed to the FIA did not receive approval of the WMSC, no change can occur in 2009."
