Gary, $15k is too much for making it ASP competitive, less than half of that is the real number.
Look at the advantages, you can get the new OSGiken LSD for the 996 GT3, light seats that keep you in place, and proper springs (springs are $300, and you already have great shocks), light battery, wide 10"/12" wheels and 285/335 tires, a lightweight flywheel. That should be it, but I don't know if it's going to be 0.3 secs faster, this should put you in the 2,880 lbs, and you can still do the AC delete and radio delete for another 45 lbs to be removed.
Run ASP, SS is a boring class, it is Braun and the rest.

Those mods would make the car more than just competitive in PAX locally with the new index, but in my opinion to be near the top in ASP on a national level would require those mods and the ring and pinion from the new GT3 RS. Since that would mean gearbox (ratios) work also, we need the $15k. :barf:
As for that Braun guy, I could do the A/C and radio delete in SS, and I think the GT3 improves more in Lincoln than the Elise.

Super Stock: a class with a 2 generations old GT3, a Barbie car, a newer Barbie car, a Kit car, that's it. Boring.
Jason, it's fine, you have moved to a more entertaining class for next season, and you showed you were the best of the rest this year.

FWIW Rad, I don't entirely disagree on "Braun and the rest" - IMO in the sport there's Braun, Thomason, Strelneiks, McKee, Daddio, and the rest. The "rest" of us just generally prefer to be reminded of this in a more gentle fashion.
What makes SS the best class in Solo (before I got there and still after I'm gone) is that it has two of those five drivers. And unlike SSM which also has two, just about anybody with a reasonable budget can hop in a Z06 or Elise and run heads up with them, not to mention those slouches Salerno and Dietz, without having any excuse that their cars was years behind in development. SS cars aren't that bad either - spending 2-10x the $ and sacrificing street civility to only go .3 (according to the 2011 Pax) faster, when the cars already work pretty well in Stock form, doesn't seem like the wisest thing.
ASP is neat but everybody is always some varying degree of underprepared, when measured against a theoretical fully-built current-year Gallardo or whatever. Classes where *nobody* in the class has the right platform and has it fully developed, are somewhat less interesting to me.

Well said. This Braun character is crazy fast, but it's not like he's unbeatable...you were within 0.67 sec of him over two days at the Nats. Sure, Championships are sometimes decided by thousandths, but the difference between a very good run and an "absolutely nailed it" run can be 0.3. Nice drive, BTW!

By far the best diff I've ever had in my car and I have a lot of them.

That new box to Sean's right in Toby's photo is the new LSD unit that's now installed in my M3.
Sean did a great job tuning it for me, and I'm settling in on some new alignment settings to get the most out of it, but I want to say after one weekend using it in the car: Wow. This thing is incredible. The way it puts down power so smoothly is a welcome change from my prior limited slip unit, which itself had been reworked for better performance when Tom Tanquary and I ran the car in STU.
Many thanks to Sean for showing me the insides of the unit and spending personal time working with me and Toby, and thanks to John Coffey at BetaMotorsports for hosting the session.

I believe that Tom Berry recently fitted an OSGiken to the communal 325i, and everyone running it had smokin' fast times this weekend (but not only because of the diff!). Congrats Kurt, Theresa & Lisa!

Correct. We had an uncharacteristc amount of oversteer coming out of slower corners, which I attibuted to getting more power down. That's just going to require a fine-tune of the ol' driving skills, though. Overall, I loved the thing! It really helped turn-in on power-off, which is great on a car with such a slow steering rack.

Interesting...more engine-braking resistance from the inside rear = better turn-in. Glad it's working out!

True Doug, The car was working quite well. The OS/Giken diff goes about it job so well that you almost dont notice it.
Sean is a heck of a nice guy and very willing to put out the extra effort to help out us racer types.

I pointed out to Robert today that FJC gets the biggest PAX boost in 2011. He wanted to know if he could run PAX and kick some butt against those posers in the BMW's, Evo's and Miatae.
