Interesting suggestion. I'll have to think about it more, but at first blush I like it. Although that much upheaval to the status quo at one time might make some peoples' heads explode.

But we all know that Corvettes and Vipers and Rustangs and such all thoroughly suck on streets so, create Stock and Super Stock. Stock is the low horsepower classes currently in stock. Super Stock takes the high powered classes currently in stock. Stock runs streets. Super Stocks runs R's.

Interesting idea. I'm not much of a fan of street tires for stock but in this case it might make sense.

Also something else, at this time of year we still get snow up here so the car had a set of snows on steel wheels installed. The entire set of 16" mags fit into the back with no problem with the rear seats folded down ... and in fact I dare say you could get 2 sets of wheels/tires in the back if you wanted to .... without buying one of 7 or so different roof/hitch racks/cargo holders available.

Speaking of the FRS, how did it do when our drivers took it around the course yesterday? We didn't get to stay long enough to watch.

It ran... some times.... that were... relatively faster or slower than.... some other times it ran.... (they didn't announce the times)

It sure looked good doing it though.

It would have won SK1 at this event but lets be honest, Brian, Ken or Ryan could win SK1 with pretty much anything.

We've had similar proposals floated via member letters on the SAC, but usually around HS/GS/DS on streets, everything else on r-comps...seems those ES miatters like their HoHo grip. :)

In any case, there hasn't seemed to be appetite for bifurcating the stock class rule set. It will be interesting to see how this RT* deal works out this year, that is the only real proxy we can envision, right now, to prove out the "street tires in stock" idea. Funny thing, I'm more open to it than I used to be...as I've moved to real slicks

Well, maybe you should look at our "experiment" with ES in Cal-Club Solo. We had 5 entries yesterday, more than in a LONG time. We were all on street tires.

Don't take it the wrong way. Those three are aliens, with superhuman driving powers. They've got umpteen national championships between them. They can get in a car they've never been in and embarass the guy who's been driving that car for five years.

Sorry if that came across the wrong way, but Kurt has it right. I should have said those guys could win any class with pretty much anything so the "would have won SK1" really doesn't say anything about the performance of the car at all.

Ooooo.....that sounds like a good idea .... the B-spec cars (as per road racers - thx Steve) and any other classes that tend to have the higher CG cars should be on street tires and "upper" stock classes that are filled with small low CG cars can still be allowed R's .... I can see that!

Heck, if they are really bad, then they should be allowed only "no-season" tires! (ok, ok, ... now i'm kidding! :) )_

Gotcha... it's all good. In any case, I'm sure that car is going to be a beast. Any speculation as to where it will be classed? My initial guess would be BS.

It's only an experiment if there's a hypothesis. Otherwise, it's a pointless exercise.

The "experiment" is testing the hypothesis that ES can have increased numbers of entrants and simultaneously create a sense of fun, close competition and reduced costs if the main ingredient is street tires only. So far, so good.

How's that working for you with the San Diego region, the National Tour, and the ProSolo? Unless you convince those already running R-compounds to switch to street tires while remaining in open E-Stock, your experiment holds zero weight.

Actually it is not so much for drawing out/or "stealing" the existing CS or other stock entries but rather seeing if new people will enter the Tours/Pros with street tires who otherwise might not enter.

I don't know if you're aware of this, Reijo, but the new-for-this-year RT classes for the ProSolo and National Tour already address this issue. For the ProSolo, all street tire stock cars are lumped into one RT class (just like the San Francisco region does with its street tire stock class) while there are three separate RT classes for the National Tour (RTR for rear wheel drive, RTA for all-wheel drive, and RTF for front wheel drive). Are we now deciding we would rather shuffle these drivers back to the open class?

Yep, that's what I was speaking about ... I thot you were just talking about the local LA solos ... The RT classes are a trial only.....not official.
