Speck isn't a racial slur.

The always say use caution.
Happens so fast. I was in a very alert state and driving the speedlimit. Certainly can't claim that at all times. But I was when it happened. Didn't have a prayer. Might have been able to avoid but the risk of ending upside in the ditch was too great.

I guess it depends on how it pronounced, like with an i. }:)
P.S. Since I'm fully 1/2 Mexican, I get a pass.

Main Entry:
Pronunciation:
\ˈspek\
Function:
noun
Etymology:
Middle English specke, from Old English specca
Date:
before 12th century
1 : a small discoloration or spot especially from stain or decay 2 : a very small amount : bit 3 : something marked or marred with specks
The word with an 'i' instead of an 'e' was used as a slur against Puerto Ricans when I was growing up in Chicago, although the etymology covers all Spanish-Americans. I have never heard of any variant pronunciation of the s-p-e-c-k. Also, 'speck' in meaning 2 means
exactly the visual effect I was describing when the camera zooms out. Sus-specks is a play on suspects, nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry. Wasn't quite sure. I would never call Chicanos that word, and I consider Chicano a term of respect, as in Chicanos por la Causa.
That was niggardly of me. ;)

And to keep this post even more OT, one Q & A from the interview...
about the election! (See? That's on-topic in other OT threads. Can it get more OT?)
C.L.: We are doing nonstop election coverage this month. Any thoughts on whether there will be an election?
S.A.: There will be an election, followed by rioting, the complete unraveling of society, and, I assume, a zombie problem. And everyone will agree it’s an improvement.

So, in the mail on Saturday was my 2009 SCCA membership card. And three free decals! WOW!
But, despite this being the 21st century, the card is still two pieces instead of one with printing on both sides.

I'd like to thank, first and foremost, God. Without him, none of us would be here.
further, I'd like to thank all the little people in the OT forums, without whom, this would never be possible..
