How could I resist? You can actually start autocrossing with only an alignment and race tires. That's how I won my first National Tour. What I have now are single adjustable Koni shocks from 2001 (no longer made), an air filter, Cags bypass, and low-temperature thermostat. Of course it's aligned and has the ride height adjusted. The only change made between street driving and autocross is rear toe and shock settings - both of which I can do myself (don't give me any cra*, people - I can work on my car if I have to although I admit it can be scary!). I have never changed bars or the exhaust. Although you might listen to Uyeda - his cars seem to be so easy to drive it must be superior setup. Rita's Z06 also feels easier to drive although my times are similar in both cars. It will good to have another Z06 driver around!

I'm going to cross my fingers and toes that an extended warranty will be worthwhile and not a waste of money - thankfully I've always been able to find a dealership / mechanic I could tolerate, even with my rare cars (Type R's, S2000's when they first came out, etc). After hearing Max's stories of his Vette, and seeing the list of things that could go wrong, I definitely want a warranty!

Once the car is out of 3/36 and you are into the extended warranty you do NOT have to go to a Chevy dealer for extended warr work. I would say most people assume you do go back to where you buy the warranty. I bought my GMPP from a Chevy dealer in Louisana who sells on the internet (Ross Downing) and get some work done at my local dealer (I have a good relationship with the Service Manager & usually I tell them what is wrong & what parts to order & what to fix) and some work I have done at an independent shop that honors GMPP. Some little stuff I do myself just because it's easier.

IMHO GMPP is the best of the lot, be careful what warranty you get. They are written by lawyers & packed full of loopholes that allow them to deny claims.

I know many people have had a bad time with dealers & I also have had a problem now & then (with the Black Vette & non GMPP) but the key is to try & be on the good side of the mechanics & service manager, especially since they are trained in how to detect "abuse" of the vehicle.

:)

Oh please. Just ONCE I'd like to see you change the toe yourself!

Annie, Nobody has as many problems as Leslie seems to somehow always come up with, so don't fret about it. Mine were very reliable, and I drove them both all over. Leslie should be a consultant for Chevy in the warranty claim mitigation department. Her testing would have saved them a mint ;)

Personally, I think the Z06 is easily one of the best values around, rocks for autox, and needs very little setup to be competitive. They even get mid-high 20's mpg on the hwy.

Leslie's car is probably perfectly setup for Isley... Soft... :) But in all seriousness it's somewhat of a preference thing. I don't think you can go wrong with Koni yellows, and that's coming from me, a diehard Penske guy. Penske's are good too though, Robertson has my old doubles. Because of the C5Z's already very short bumpstops, you can't really abuse the stock shock rules as much as you can with other cars, and I think this also limits the advantage to running $$$ shocks somewhat. And like I said, I've heard the stock '04 shocks are pretty decent but I have no real first hand back-to-back experience.

For $550 I would get the front bar just because I like to turn knobs... That may seem like a lot of money to some, but for what you get I think it's actually quite reasonable as it's a nice piece. I've tried to make a front bar for a C5, it's not simple (think S2k...). Wether or not you want more front bar is debatable, but I think with the A6s you can make use of it. Plus I almost always run more front bar at Pros... I also initially thought this was for Max, I figured he could use more front bar since he wouldn't be able to handle the power :)

I'm hardly very knowledgeable when it comes to C5's though, so I would defer to whatever GTho or LCo say...

My cars are easy to drive because that's necessary when you're hungover!

I wouldn't buy an SP car unless I had a truck and trailer, which is not in the plans. This car will, or at least need the ability to be, a daily driver as well.

Have truck (jeep), looking for trailer, will provide honda civic daily driver, Tom's car?? :D :D

I think my 03 Z06 is great. For about $30K a lot of car and maintenance is oil and filters.

:ibrightdea: If you need a set of 04 shocks for an 03 I have a new set still in the box $350.

Good luck! Steve

Problem with SS Z-06's ... slippery seats and slow-ish steering. One reason why Henry went ASP ... proper seats and a nice small detachable steering wheel.

Congratulations!!! Looks Great ... the car that is!

For those that don't know ... we de'moded Annie's STU STI on Saturday ... Sunday Annie and Max drove up to San Francisco and traded it in for the '03 Z-06 with only 10K on it ... and came back to the OC! Annie's a Fast Girl ... she doesn't waste any time. Car number 41 ...

Look! Max standing next to a Z06. Sorry, it will take more than that to establish your bona fides as a straight man.
Leaving Team Blew and coming to CASOC would be a start. We don't make gay jokes about Aaron.
