And now to bring you the "Duh" moment of the day

A headline from CNN.com about NFL players:

Dead athletes' brains show damage from concussions

"The idea that you can whack your head hundreds of times in your life and knock yourself out and get up and be fine is gone," said Nowinski. "We know we can't do that anymore. This causes long-term damage."

Every tackle is like being in a minor car wreck. And the "good" ones really can knock you for a loop.

The average NFL lineman plays 6 seasons. Watching one of those guys trying to get out of a car is painful.

My mom dated a Dallas Cowboy linebacker back in the later 70's. He would call at the last minute and back out of dates. She was starting to think he was a flake, when finally she realized through some of his friends that there were many days he just couldn't get out of bed.

I chuckled  :

A guy checked into a hotel and said to the receptionist, "I hope the porn channel in my room is disabled."

"No," she said, "it's regular porn, you sick bastard."

Not disabled, but still, uhm... odd???

I was offered the general counsel's job once for a company that amongst other tacky things, was the largest producer of "midget porn".

The CEO was pretty disappointed I turned him down. I saw him at a party and he tossed me the keys of his SL65 AMG roadster. He told me his general counsel just bought a matching one. Could have been mine..... BTW Tadd-Same guy now drives an M6 Convertible.

I just don't see myself as a midget porn kinda guy....

Bad enough to produce midget porn?

The R8 runs rings—pardon the pun—around the M6. The M is fast and comfortable, but it doesn't handle as well by a significant margin. Of course, it won't hold a bag of golf clubs.

So, if you watch midget porn on a big-screen TV is it more normal?

I drove one on the road back in May and was impressed with the acceleration and braking. Drove one the track in October and was impressed with how I could take tight sections more quickly. Plus the gated shifter is the sex. :heyes:

Now, the M6 has serious acceleration and braking, but the car feels heavy and isn't that nimble. More touring than sport.

The M6 is a GT not a supercar like the R8. For the weight of the M6 it is amazing.

Yeah, but the M6 isn't much cheaper. The Audi PR guy I talked with said the approach to the R8 going forward is that they have barely scratched the surface. One possibility is the V-8 TDI that's available in Europe. Torque, baby, torque.

If you drove one you'd forget about that. I don't find its dips into the Audi parts bin anywhere near the horror of the previous Jag XJS. How many bits of the Contour can they harvest for a $75,000 car?

Ford + Volvo = a successful deal.

Ford + Jag = FAIL!

Ford + Aston and Land Rover = OK, but not brilliant.

I can't get into either the R8 or the M6. M6 is just a pig. R8 looks like some crazy supercar out of Ironman... Just not my kinda thing.

If I wanted a toy, I could get that M260 Exige (and lose weight, what a great incentive plan).
If I wanted executive class transportation, M5.
If I wanted a fast car, I'm thinking I'd like an M3 before an M6. And I'm thinking if I really wanted fast, I could probably transform a 135 or 335 coupe into something that would embarrass a lot of cars for a lot less money.

But Randy's Noble does get me a little hot and bothered....

With you on the M6. I'm already driving a frustratingly heavy pig of a car. Like I need another 500 pounds. I don't mind the R8, but those blades look weird. If I wanted a toy, I'd get an Ariel Atom. With you on the M5, and I LOVE the M3, though it's a tad on the porky side as well. Not a huge fan of the Noble. Not sure what one costs, but I'm sure I could find something I like better for the money.
