You know I was wondering where your "post" was in that blog until I realized...........YOU wrote the whole blog. Excellent writing skillz Mr. B. Yeah and I agree...let GM burn. They make crappy cars and I for one do NOT want my f-ing tax dollars going to bail those f'ers out. I'm in a high tax-bracket as it is without my money going to these fools.

Guess I should give myself a byline at the top.

I'm not quite saying let them burn, for the money they're asking I think a bankruptcy judge should keep the cash from being squandered and the loan shouldn't be made in the first place if GM and the UAW aren't going to major changes. I expect to be disappointed.

Hmmm. It's okay to put out close to a million people out of work and close more the just GM but let's save AIG/others and 100's of big fat CEO jobs in the mortgage industry with bail outs.

We have bailed out airlines, trains, insurance, mortgage companies and Chrysler before but now you'll let GM burn??? Then when Ford and Chrysler fall, what's next? The air line industry has already done all it can by combining companies in order to survive.

This country is losing it's ability to manufacture goods. Soon we'll have nothing left in this country to call Made in the USA and then other countries will totally own us. They're almost there now with flooding the US with cheap products and there's nothing we can do. Tariff, yeah right. China already said don't even try it.

Oh yeah that's right, the great savior Obama will save us.

Not at all. Let them burn too....except the airline industry. They provide a service that is necessary (people travel by plane, trains, buses). Not everyone needs a car. And those mortgage bastards should pay too and also the fools who thought they were "mini-Donald Trumps" need to suffer the consequences.

UAW is really strong. Not as strong as the Canadian UAW but still very hard to make them change. GM is paying almost as much in retirement benefits as they pay for the work force and Ford is in the same boat. Oh well...

PS Bob yes I did. :)

Ah, thanks. Yes, the UAW is still a very strong union. The real question is if the leaders are smart enough to realize that a bridge loan to maintain the status quo will only delay the inevitable.

It's called the free market system, right? If you can't or won't create things people actually want, you go out of business. That's capitalism, baby. Don't tell me you've got some liberal leanings in you?

Y'all know that you can post comments at my blog. I'm running anti-spam and anti-bot software and user e-mail addresses are hidden.

Comments are moderated, but at the moment I don't have a set policy. Soon, though. ;)

Oh, and to be clear, e-mail addresses are hidden from bots, not from me. :D

Yep, although the second registered user. An old friend from my days at the OC Register signed up first. He's a systems analyst at The Irvine Co. and knows the blog software I'm using well. He's been a lot of help the past few days.

Bob, I read your blog the first day you posted it. I liked it. Well done. I wanted to post but, after trying to register twice with no luck, gave up.

These quotes mirror my thoughts. It's taxpayer money that will never be repaid. GM needs to get out from under the their present union contracts to be a viable business. Bankruptcy and reorganization is the only answer. The UAW would rather see the automaker go broke rather than agree to a reasonable contract.

George,

I dropped the registration requirement. Don't know if it's the host or the blog software, but it took quite a while for people to get acknowledgment e-mails. There is a visual fill-in-the blank to combat spambots.
