Gary Thomason, is unstoppable.. with an awesome pic.

That is a great pic on pg 94. However, I have come across some great pics of him driving that bad @ss MR2 he had.

For those too new to know.
Guru Gary had a lovely '85 MR2 in the same shade of blue as the Ekstrand's civic.

'Scuse the ignorance but what's GRM? Sounds like something I should be reading.

No wonder Gary looked so at home in the ProFinale Lotus.

Wow Jason, you're really dating me now, that's an old one! I probably have a copy of that cover somewhere. That was the first car I took to nationals - I actually was leading after the first day, but ended up in third overall.
BTW, the first time I saw that picture was when I was registering at my hotel in Salina - they had it posted on the wall behind the desk in the form of a big poster (this was at the event headquarters that year). I had no idea SportsCar was going to run it, and didn't even know it had been taken. Pretty sure it was from a Pro held at the old Lion Country Safari site (Irvine Meadows now).
I don't get GRM anymore, guess I'll have to go find one to see what's in the Dec issue........

Haha, you're apparently one of the most notable people in the last 25 years in Motorsport according to GRM. :king:

Good memories! Thanks. I "Coe"-drove with Gary in that car at the '88 nationals.
Difficult trip though, Gary mumbles and I can't hear. He didn't understand my addiction to coffe.
My best finish at the nats was in his car. I gotta thank him for that!

Max made it clear to me ... no coffee in his cars! Hates the smell, the taste ... but of course, he haytes a lot of foods (Mexican!) and as far as I know only eats Rack of Lamb, sauce on the side, from Outbacks. But give him that, and he's all yours. What a moment, I mean, he's generous with whatever he has. I mean ...

Max is an odd duck. Doesn't like coffee. Doesn't like tea. It's amazing he likes lamb.

Steve,
As I recall, we towed a trailer out behind it that was longer than the car.

Remember the guy tailgating us up the mountain road (90 lb-ft of torque and a trailer), finally letting him by and then giving it back to him on the way downhill? He pushed too hard and nearly ran it off the road, and when we went by him his female companion was beating him over the head?
One of the funniest things I have ever seen....

LOL Yeah, we were at some incredible altitude and he was driving a turbo K car, but you did a great job driving the MR2 as I remember you had the car and trailer in a few
6 wheeled drifts!

LOL.....some dork in a non-descript beater was following me too closely this evening......on slightly slippery roads...tailgating my beater Toyota 'ruck......so I didn't slow down too much into the on-ramp....used a good line....he didn't....think I saw them hit the curb (looking in the rear view mirror).....
