Traditional stick and clutch (pedal). But the computer blips the throttle when you downshift.

I don't think I'd buy a car like that unless you could turn it off. It'd drive me nuts. Cars already do too much thinking IMO.

Well, if compare a DSG or similar transmission with a standard automatic, you'd pick the DSG every time. As for Nissan's new manual trans, I'd have to drive it before I'd say no. After all, CVTs sounded good in concept, but they suck to drive.

Tell that to O'Blenes. It's all about the execution.

Execution of engineering? Yeah, I'd say so. The A-mod car's centrifugal clutch and transmission is a bit different than what Nissan and Mitsubishi use. The one in the Lancer is godawful. The one in the Rogue is better, but that makes it barely tolerable. Toyota's in the Highlander Hybrid actually works pretty well, but the HH isn't a very exciting vehicle to drive.

What does the high end new EVO use ... that get's such rave reviews? A number of tests have said it was faster around places like Streets of Willow in Automatic. Magical down shifts.

It ain't the CVT. It's a dual-clutch gearbox, like the VW/Audi DSG. A CVT doesn't down shift in the usual manner.
