how do we figure averages?

just curious how we figure averages. it looks like Richards average for SEP should be 87.5, 700 div by 8. but for him to have 996.130 w/3 drops he would have needed an 100 points for SEP

it doesn't look like the stuff right of the decimal point is correct either
800 + 98.982 + 97.535= 996.517
700 + avg of 87.5 + 98.982 + 97.535 = 984.017
or does my calculator need new batteries and me a good nights sleep?
