2009 changes

Based on Rick Brown's great suggestion, I'm starting this sticky thread to call a number of significant and insignificant changes to your attention. I extend an invitation to our Committee and Board members to chime in with clarifications.

In no particular order:
- National class name changes: SM2 becomes SSM, STS becomes ST and STS2 becomes STS. Buy your new placards early. Or now. Just not later.
- New local classes. 2009 sees the new California Street Touring (CST) and Super Street Touring (SST) classes. Don't let the names fool you; they really aren't related.
CST is essentially our local CSM class on 140+ treadwear street tires. CSM is our "Run What Ya Brung" class. You can read about it in the Supplemental Regulations published on the Solo2.com site in the left column. The index we use for this is .858 (98% of CSM's .876.)
SST is a local class, also running 140+ street tires, but operating under the National STU rule set. The index for this class is .845. - New run and work order. We rebalanced the run groups and split the Open and Ladies classes so they do not run at the same time. The run order for the Ladies classes will float in the same half day as the related Open class, and the respective classes *will work together.* This allows husbands to support wives - and vice-versa - since they won't be working while the other is running.
- On-line registration and payment. AXWare is the company that provides our timing and scoring software and we recently tested their Online Race Management system to coordinate pre-registration. The system also allows Pre-Payment if you prefer. The main page can be found at https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/calendar_main.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Select the month of the event and CSCC Solo in the Club Selection popup to view any active flyers.
The company is working closely with our representatives on improvements so you may see some changes over the next few months. The event flyers are duplicated there for your convenience. To view them, select the appropriate month and click on the event link. You will see a scroll box that displays the relevant info. You *will* have to scroll through the box to read all the details. (Note that a "mouseover" box will pop up if you pause your pointer over the link. It is much easier to see all the info by clicking on the link and scrolling through the linked page.)
Also please note that we do not have a process established for booking Practice Pre-registration through AXWare. Please pay close attention to the Solo2.com calendar for Practice flyers. - Event Fees. Prices are slightly changed. Everyone is eligible to pre-register, with or without payment. Previously you had to be a Points Card holder to pre-register. The fee schedule is:
--Pre-registered: $30.00
--Registering on site: $40.00
We do not - yet - have the ability to coordinate Solo$ though the AXWare system so if you are due Solo$, please pay on-site. At this time, I believe we may now pre-register - and pay - for X runs as well. - SCCA Temporary Memberships. The SCCA requires all participants to be either permanent or temporary SCCA members. If you are not a full member, you may purchase a Weekend Membership for $15. Be sure to do this *before* lining up for registration. (We have a separate person who handles this for you.)
The SCCA is increasing annual dues by $5, making Cal Club (our local region) membership $90. You may be eligible to deduct two Weekend Membership fees from the cost. The benefits of full membership vs weekend membership include:
-- Faster registration - no more waiting in line for the temporary membership.
-- Monthly delivery of Sports Car magazine, covering everything from Rallycross to every form of SCCA racing... as well as all the autocross stuff that really matters!
-- Eligibility to participate in National events, including the San Diego National Tour and our own El Toro Pro Solo. Don't let the names intimidate you... they're a blast, and the hospitality is entirely different from our local events, making the experience even more rewarding.
-- The right to write in to the National Rules Makers - the Solo Events Board, or SEB - and let them know what you like or dislike about the National Rules and classes.
-- More! Adrenaline! RUSH!!
-- And I'm pretty sure your car will be faster too. - Points cards. We reduced the price for Points Cards to $20 per member ($21 for electronic payment.) For our newest participants wondering what it buys:
-- Eligibility for the annual competition, including our new Rookie of the Year award.
-- Consistent numbering for your car. If your car is magnetic, purchase a set of magnetic numbers and class letters and you will meet the Tech requirements easily and conveniently. - On-site check-in. We will have two lines at registration: one for those who pre-paid and one for everyone else. If you pre-pay through AXWare's site your check-in time should be incredibly brief.
- Rookie of the Year award. Details on this will be released soon. Every novice will be allowed to compete for the award, which will be awarded based on your six best indexed times throughout the year. Start early to maximize your potential, but don't worry if you miss an event or two. You'll still be in the hunt. Keep an eye on our forums for further discussion!
