Cal Club Autocross Forums

PSCC is planning on a separate practice course (with timing) for Jr karts at our Feb 28th practice. Likely procedure is to have the kids and parents do the set up with the practice starting after lunch. We will offer 1/2 day practice entries to interested parents. Entry charge for kids is $10 to cover SCCA fees. Please indicate interest here. We also may be able to come up with a loaner kart for those with kids who might like to try it out.

The last time we did this, a lot of the work fell on John Kestler's shoulders ... in addition to his watching out for his three kids. We should try to provide enough extra help with course set-up/take down to even out the load.

I'd be VERY interested in a loaner kart. My kid is about 5'4".

We are interested!! Ill be able to help if you need help!

I checked our school interview/tour schedule and it looks like the family will be free that weekend.
So, we'll be there. With Robert Racer (watch your ankles).

Hopefully the parents can pull together and make light work of setting up a course and running the half day.

I've been contemplating whether or not to reply on this thread. I didn't want to take advantage of the generosity of the people in this region,,,,,but this opportunity seems too good to past up.

I have a 7 yr son that is 50" tall that my wife and I have been discussing about getting a kart. A big help was when Steve had pictures of his son in his kart.

Back to the point, Is there a possibility that I could get a ride for my son. At the very least I could offer help and time to help with the work load of putting this event on. Please feel to email with any questions or guidance.

Bring him out. At 7 he needs a Kid Kart and we'll have two there. Will's will be busy with the twins, but he can take rides in Robert's. Robert is three inches shorter, but hopefully your son can crowd in there.

He should have high top shoes over the ankle bone and jeans and a jean jacket at a minimum. He can borrow our gloves, neck collar and chest protector. We've got an adult XS small helmet that fits kids with a head circ of 20.75 to 22" I'd think.


BTW-when does he turn 8?

My son Max is about 65" tall. Do you think he'd fit in Jon's kart? If so, this might be a great time to see if he's into it.

Since he'll be 8 in October, you probably want to start looking now for a cadet kart and learning about engine options. You can probably take him to tracks for practice and then run with us in Oct if he's into it.
The kid Kart is for 5-7. And trust me the 7yo's are really itching to go faster. If you put an 8 yo in a Kid kart they might fall asleep during the lap....

I have two karts that I bought from Scott Call. My grand-daughter can not get good enough grades, so they are not being used. Neither will be used until the 4 year old Grand-son is old enough.

They have been sitting for about 6 months but have been started every few weeks. I can bring both, one is very fast (Dean Call drove it in A) and the other is a B.

Eric's son gets the A, if he wishes, but that may free up his kart----

I think it is for a bit larger than an average 9 year old, but I do have a couple of smaller seats. A set of pedal pads--whatever they are called--would probably help make it fit nearly any size kid.

You and Kencey could come by and try it out or I can bring it to the practice on the 31st.

Sweet. Thanks, Steve. That might be what gets Max into a kart.

As we try to fit kids in the karts, take care that you don't rely too much on padding the BACK of the seat to move them forward. A little bit might be okay, we did at first with Robert until I got a pedal box. But if you pad too much, you can move the child such that they aren't properly confined by the seat sides.

We'll be there with the karts. Max should fit fine. Don, please bring Dean's old kart so we can have Jon run the World Formula back to back with the KT100.
