NOAA, the U.S. Weather Service site, claims we'll see gusts up to 70 tomorrow and Saturday. Plan on double cones... at least!

Wind at 35 MPH is difficult to deal with. At 50 mph you can't stand in the sme place for very long. At 70 it is dangerous!

Do you get a re-run if an earthquake hits during your run? There appears to have been a few near Fontana.

and make sure you reserve your space in Toby's motorhome as you as you check in the gate. Space will be at a premium over there

it's suppose to be santa ana winds, possibly in the 80's. dress in layers, as no doubt, the morning will still be cold.

aye, sunday... possibly another half day though, so i can go visit my friend's new-born-son.
i may have a hard time shooting pictures this time around. if all goes right, i'm going to be trading in my mid-range zoom lenses, for a HUGE lens.
that would mean taking pictures of you guys from the kart lot.. >_<

70mph! I don't think the civic will make it up the hill in that kind of headwind.

When the motor home lifts off the ground and soars toward OZtereo you can say, "Toby I don't think we are in Fontana anymore."

You missed it Reijo. I was in Newport at work and it was still relatively strong.
We all miss you here.

Go with the 100/400 zoom, cheaper and more versatile
Add the Sigma 1.4X extender (sharper then the Canon)

I already have the 100-400, it's getting traded in along with the 70-200 in order to get the 600mm. also, the 100-400 + TC won't auto-focus with a non-EOS1 camera.
i find that the 100-400 is great, but just not long enough, and that i really haven't been using the 70-200, so it works out for me all around.
I'll probably keep my eye out for a 70-200 f/4 if a good one comes along, to get that mid-range covered again.

Just on the off chance...in the history of the CSCC has there ever been an event canceled because of the wind?

Keep the 100/400 and get a smaller format body, 50D ... as a 1.6X tender.

Twice in recent years we've had to cancel because of wind. But we really don't like to talk about cancellations because of wind or rain. We run in the elements, and it takes extraordinary, dangerous, or impassable conditions for us to cancel. Simple unpleasantness or inconvenience isn't a good reason. And that slightly soggy PFM cancellation was 100% wrong and a mistake that we are still paying for.
Sunday is shaping up by forecasts to be MUCH MUCH better than Saturday. Saturday is going to be a challenge.

I guess we're about to make history. Just got this from AXWareORM:
"The Practice and Championship Event are cancelled due to current and anticipated unsafe conditions. Please see the message board for additional information."
