Unless you have an open cockpit car or a Kart.

Checked with NASA, Speed Ventures and Speed Trials ... none of them specify closed face helmets ... but I'm thinking for an open Miata, probably a good idea.

I got my closed face helmet because you are more likely to kiss something hard in an hpde event, which I thought i'd do more of. I've already got one bridge from sliding grill first into a culvert.

For HPDE's or any track experience you want to think about eye protection. Even though you aren't "racing" there is a good possibility of getting dirt, rocks, etc thrown up at you. All it takes is the guy in front of you dropping two wheels off the track. Your windshield isn't going to fully protect you. If you wear contacts you really should consider a full face helmet. You won't go blind, it will just kill your session on the track. If not at least take some eye wash. I know, Craig Angel used to shower me with stuff all the time at Riverside. :D
