hey everyone well I went to my first solo2 event on Jan 14th 2009 with my DD setup
rota slipstreams 16x8 5x100, on falkon 452's 225/50/16
my tires took a good beating and wheels got a bit of cone scuff.so I'm looking for a set of wheels just for solo2/track abuse only.
some choices I had in mind.
Advan RCII 17x8.5 +45
Enkei RPf1 17x8 +45
Enkei Nto3 17x8 +45
5zigen fno1rc 17x8 +45
so if u can give me some advice on which wheels I would benefit from best. maybe pros and cons, or internet websites/store locations on where I could find wheels for a good price
thanks

Out of those, I would choose the Enkei. Light and resonably priced.
If you want Rotas, call JLB Motorsports (951) 734-4411 they won't be undersold.
Edit: You should consider the class that you want to run before buying autocross dedicated wheels, if you run ST (the best fit for your mods) you must choose a wheel that does not exceed 7.5" wide. If you want to "Run up a class" you can run in STX with 8" wheels, or STU with unlimited width.

They are all good choices, in fact I have run all of them. The rpf1's are probably the lightest.

really, ok everyone who I've asked has been telling me to go with the enkeis aswell.
do you know of any places that sell them for a good price, do we get a discount from being solo2/scca members anywhere?

I got mine at Tirerack, but no special discounts there. They support our sport, so I buy from them.

Usually in Solo, you figure out your size and offset needs. Then look for the weight, strength, value trade off best for you.
Often the Enkei RPF1 comes floating to the top on that calculation. Tough to beat. Wish they made a 15x7.5.
Rota's are a great value if you get them at a place like JLB, but they are heavier.

Your best bet will be to stick with ST class and sticking with rims that at 7.5 inches in width max.
The Subaru can be competitive in the ST class with the right mods and you look to be in the right direction.
If you need any help with setup the guys from Team Blew are great, and I have personally setup a 2.5RS for ST as well as consulted on other projects with the same goal so hollar if ya need any advice

Jason is right.
Even though the max size is 7 1/2 inches, my co-driver Jon Lugod still puts on a good performance despite only having 7"

Can the RS fit a 15" rim over the brakes? Seems like the 225-45-15 Toyo R1R would make the RS more competitive. Not sure about gearing issues though.

yeh 15's wont fit over the brakes the smallest is a 16 inch wheel which is what I have now but thinking of moving to a 17 for less sidewall flex

if your looking for a great 17inch tire you might want to look into the new Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 soon to be available it look like it will be a GREAT competitor in ST. It comes in a 225/45/17 for your new rims or a 225/50/16 for your old but with a much improved and redesigned side wall i think it will be a leap and bound jump from your 452's. I would personally stick with the 17s because I think the car looks better everyday and as far as gearing it tire circumference is within .1 of an inch. the only real difference between the 2 being weight but with the next competitive car being quite a few 100lbs lighter then the subaru i dont know how deep your pocket it to keep up. with that being said the new RE-11 should give you what you looking for, not to mention they strongly support our sport!!!

Would his Suby's benefit from a slightly shorter tire ... like the WRX's using 235/40/17's?

Probably not, the RS runs out of 2nd gear quite often.

Putting on a good performance with 7" shouldn't be that hard. It's more than a lot of guys have and certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

To bad on the wheels as you can't prep you car for ST where its most competitive. You have to move up to STX and run straight up with the WRX's.
I don't like the tire choice. You would be better with a Dunlop Star Spec or wait for the Bridgestone RE-11. Even a Kumho XS.

yup ... tires make the BIGGEST difference ... at the Porsche AX yesterday we were using up our old Goodyear GS-D3's ... a nice rain tire!
