Who is the course designer for the kid kart course? I think I saw someplace that parents were going to help set up and work the course while their kids ran. When are we supposed to do the setup? Mike is planning on setting up the regular course on Fri., and Max and I are going to help with that. We'd be happy to start the kart course as well.

I figured the parents would just throw something together during whatever rest group they had in the AM. It will be shorter than a regular course.

I would think we are going to have a cone shortage???

Cool. I think there are enough parents that we should be able to throw something together relatively quickly in the morning. BTW, Steve, you have an email.

Like I said, Max and I are there to set up the regular course on Fri. Steve, if you want me to start setting it up, I'm happy to.

Certainly finding us an appropriate area and getting us cones ready would be a huge help.

John Kestler designed and he and his kids did most of the setup last year. It was fairly short but had several common elements. They ended up connecting it and letting the kids go around twice to lengthen it. Just had a person at the exit point to indicate to the kid to keep going or to exit which seemed to work fine. Don't know what Mike's plan is for the regular course, but the kids area needs to be isolated, including it own pits, so no cars will be moving near them. I do plan on being there Friday afternoon so I can help with it, too.

I'll be scoping out the venue this weekend, and I'll need to coordinate with Robert to see where the Evo school plans to set up so I can make sure we have a safe layout for all three activities.

So it sounds like we've got it covered, at least to figure out where we'll be and get some cones out there.

If we run out of cones, could we use Palero?

Unfortunately the kids course is cone intensive ... basically outling the course ... so the kids can find their way around ... small cones of course. Perhaps laying down chalk between obvious elements would be good enough.

I disagree.

It needs to have elements they see on the big courses. Make it too easy to find and it does no good.

The easy part is its shorter and easy to memorize, and we have the time to let them find their way.

I agree with Steve, the course should NOT be cone intensive. I personally find more cones to be more confusing. Does this mean that we will have a separate kids kart course so that the kids can run all day instead of just at lunch? The flyer says kids karts at noon.

How will scheduling work out if the kids are running and we need to drive/work course also?

I understand the $15 for the kids on the flyer. What's the $30 for parents/helpers for and how is that different from a full practice?

Kid karts are running in the afternoon on their own course.

Kid kart parents are a $30 entry and run and work one heat in the AM only.

If you have a helper or co-driver who can help with the Kid karts, then I imagine you could work it out with PSCC to run the full practice.

Yeah, what Steve said. With the relatively small number of kids an all day practice makes no sense. So starting them at noon allows the parents to get some runs in the morning and the kids to get all the runs they need. This is not a drop-your-kids-off event, the parents/siblings/other supporters are expected to work that event, doing what needs to be done and closely supervising the kids.
