Cal Club Autocross Forums

Hi all.

I don't know if CalClub had someone at the Convention to attend the Solo Seminars. When ever I asked no one raised their hand. Jason and Jayson were there, but they attended the Road and Rally respectively.

I was at all the Solo events, so if you are curious ,ask me next Sunday at your event. If the Calclub SSS's want an update from the Safety seminar, I will have my notes. Nothing really new.

the answer is YES, they can. However, the SCCA worries about contacting people if there is an incident. But they are TOTAL and COMPLETE members. In fact, those people who fill out PASSENGER forms can also work gate, and are full and complete members, AND are entitled to a 15 credit if the join the SCCA within 60 days. I asked very specific questions about this subject, and got VERY specific answers.

Some of you might be aware of the Annual Waiver hard card system the SCCA is implementing. I will have mine next Sunday, and if your Chief of Waivers is curious I can answer any questions. You will certainly see these at both the Tour and the Pro. Jason and Jayson probably got them.

Thanks for the info Warren, we didn't have anyone except Jason & Jayson. None of our Committee people could make it. So any more details you care to provide would be great.

think bar code. It's the future. I have never been convinced of the advantage of this. But you know what? I'm wrong. Unlike some in San Diego, when 50 people and the SCCA tell me it's WAY worth the effort I can change my mind.

I will be at next Sunday's event (in the morning) with my notes. I should at least have a conversation with your Chief of Waivers.

We have discussed this, just not made it a priority. The wireless scanners for staging are kinda expensive, but a wired one on a registration computer is cheap and everyone's SCCA card has the bar code. That can speed up reg. The staging scanner can eliminate missed cars by the computer operator.

How do we use the SCCA Bar code. Do we have access to their database or something, or do we have to establish each record and do data entry in the beginning?

I think its the future, just the hardware isn't quite there at good price points. I doubt that will be a problem much longer.
And I it still seems to add a worker postion. Though the workers overall are less stressed when it works.

It's not just the scanner. Some regions also have code printers, and they are even more expensive.

You build your own database. Yes, it is expensive. Not one of them regrets the expense. One warning ... don't buy the wrong ones, the technology is proprietary. Certainly there are LA people who know more about the technology than I, but I can explain how some other regions use it. One region also reads at the front gate, so registration knows they are there.

Most of the information on code reading will soon be posted on the SCCA web site. The SCCA is making a large effort to improve their site, and make it a better sharing tool for what regions do. It is kind of difficult to find stuff right now, but almost everything will be there.

The event chief of waivers or the mythical regional CoWs?

The SCCA asked all regions to have a 'Chief of Waivers' (Waiver Chair?), an overall person who they can call if there is an issue. If LA has decided to forgo that then I could talk to ...... well, I'll just talk to Rick.

We really always had a Chief of Waivers. IE somebody who is responsible for collecting and storing the waivers long term. Usually Gayle or Craig or Renee.

That would be Gayle. She is collecting and storing the waivers for us.

The hardware isn't that big of a deal, just a bit expensive for the wireless units, at least for the quality ones. AXWare is already set up to work with bar codes ( I know it can randomly generate them and create a sticker, plus I believe it can create a sticker to match your car number) and considering how much it is geared toward SCCA (like real time online membership checking with SCCA) I would imagine it would be able to use SCCA's bar code. Stephen Yeoh used bar codes with AXWare in the region he came from back east so we do have someone with experience here.
