If you didn't get into the Blew Practice Event, the Rallyx in San Diego is a go. I have rented a car and will make it available to all who would like to compete. This is a blast. Be sure to wear chest protection....don't want you to break a rib from laughing too hard!

A Rally X this close to home doesn't come along very often. This is fun, fun, fun. If you haven't done it before, it's an autox in the dirt. The more serious cars are purpose built, but there is a two wheel drive category for occasional Rally X drivers like myself that runs first before the course gets too rutted. I rent an econo box to compete with. Just be sure to open up the doors and get rid of all the dirt before returning it.

Moderators, and Team Blew, I know this event conflicts with the Team Blew practice. I waited to post this until the practice list was posted and the event was full with a waiting list. If anyone is up in arms over this, please feel free to delete this post.

Bret Norgaard from San Diego is the organizer, and he has been working to bring the SCCA RallyX program to So Cal.

A good thing about this event is that it's a half-day format, like AX, with trophies before lunch for the 2 morning groups.

A lot of SCCA regulars went to the Del Mar RallyX Bret put on and it was a blast. I had George Doganis give me some tips in my Mom's Rav 4. Since passengers are allowed, you end up laughing due to all the sliding. I mean who doesn't like to hooligan around in car in a dirt lot?

Although I often will come home to find my brothers 8 with mud halfway up the doors My 7 is almost an inch taller then stock ride height now. Does rallyX tear up the car?

That parking lot will. If you're not the first run group out, you'll have to deal with fairly large ditches and huge rocks unearth by the previous run groups. I believe there was a Passat at the last event that had the rear bumper removed by the course.

The Del Mar track on the other hand...that was nice and smooth.

Photos from a RallyX that we did a while ago ... with a rented Neon. Get the complete insurance coverage! They tried to charge me for a scratch on the fender ... that must have happened in a parking lot.

A bunch of us AX'ers participated. We all did very well, simply because we tried to get close to the cones, and slow in/fast out ... while the regulars or non-Ax'ers just went for these mad drifts in the middle of the track.

I am not 25 and would probably be too paranoid to rent a car for such an event anyways.

Rally crosses are held at the Del mar track? That is where I live! How come I have been missing out on this! Where are they held? It is in the South lot by the river? My car has been there!

Is anyone going? What time is the event over? I may be able to come watch some of it and would love to bump some rides

Well this is an LA board and that's a San Diego event, so I suspect some will make the trek down there, but not ton's of LA people. I know a lot of the San Diego regualr autoXers will be there. And I'll be there.

This is now the second event there, so the organizers have taken some lessons lerned and are going to be more proactive in keeping the course together. I hear they've removed literal tons of rocks already.

I'll be leaving from the Long Beach Airport area at about 5:45 AM. I can pick up anyone along the way and we can share the car. Don't wuss out because you don't want to make the drive alone or don't have a car. With light turnout, in all likelihood we will have fun runs. Last time I got around 8 extra runs. It was a blast. And since stock class is one of the first to run, were outta there by 1:00 and home by 3. Give me a call if interested, 562-884-9850.

We had a great time. Lots of laughs. My co-driver Carl Vanderschuit from San Diego won the rental class and I was right behind in second (darn cone). Fun runs after were a blast. Yeah, it's too bad there were so many conflicting events. Thanks to the San Diego region for making this a go.

They have a rental car class? LOL!

I would love to make the next one. Hopefully the event was successful enough to have another done again soon.

Rallyx really brings out the kid in you, as the audio of George S and I cracking up will attest. Cool thing too is you can run passengers during your timed runs. We ran first and the course still was mainly grass covered. So it made for some extra fun car control (or lack of)

I was the coordinator in the past of Johnson Valley, Bill Martin has been gratious enough to take over the venue for now. It's far from many things, and is definitly a desert environment with all the dust you've heard of. But the wide open nothingness and non-rutting surface make it the least damaging RallyX to your car and the safest to the drivers. Additionally we tend to 'open it up' a little given the excess room.

Sorry for the late response...didn't know this thread was here. Yes, I'm putting on a rallycross at Soggy Lake in Johnson Valley OHVA this Saturday. You guys would love it...this surface is much more like an autocross experience. And I'm putting on a ProSolo style course. I.e. two mirror image courses, about 6/10 mile ea, with a side-by-side drag race start. Eight, count them, 8 runs.

And back to the original topic, yeah I ran Knott's Soak City. I ran "Frankenrabbit" which is a gutted, caged Mk-1 with a supercharged Corrado drivetrain transplant. Second event on the car, first win. But for Johnson Valley I'm bringing my Evo X...the course will be totally non-destructive, unlike typical rallycrosses.

Nice and long course ... looks like he straight lined the slalom at 1:25 ... just kidding. Do the EVERY have slaloms in RallyX ?

That WOULD be a lot of fun ... especially in an Evo or STI type car.
