Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

While working course, I was wondering why the announcer kept saying he was going to award me a DNW (Did Not Work) for not showing up.
I had already checked in.
He kept calling for "Michael Palermo" over and over again with the threat of DSQing all my runs.
Turns out, some joker named "Michael Palermo" was running late to work and the announcer was saying it was me.

How does calling for someone named "Palermo" equate to someone named "Palero?"
