Ok, I'm going to dip a toe in the water, and hopefully not burn myself
Her voice is amazing, the sad thing is the preconceived notions we all have based upon looks. Had she been "hot", her preformance would be a non-issue.
The real question is how far will she go since the object of the show is a preformance contract at the end. Do the producers believe she can sell with talent alone, will she fall by the wayside as the show progresses due to her appearance, or will someone assist with creating a new look. As a testament of humankind, I hope the first, fear the second, but predict the third.
What I saw was a great candidate for a "What not to Wear" type makeover. While I realize this may be perceived in contrary to the above let me explain. Unlike "Extreme Makeover", where they attempt to make one look like what society perceives as "beauty", what I like about WNTW (I live with three females, I control the remote 6 night a week, they control one) is their assisting the "average" person, work with that they have, and improve ones feeling of self, and others perceptions based upon simple changes in clothing, hair, and for women makeup usage, that have often fallen due to those internal insecurities. (As a side note, I was greatly impressed with her presentation, and confidence within and of herself as she came out on stage and talked with the judges prior to the preformance)
Even beyond that, the emotions she can touch within us all, to look at our own fears, limits, and prejudices in the eye, can potentially take her to the end (based upon the level of other talent once the competition starts), as that's only a 6-8 week time period.
The real test on humanity is her marketability and support upon winning if that is the outcome. :gpower:
