Are we seeing the lead up to the split of open wheel racing (formula 1) thanks to another super ego (Max)?
Kind of reminds me of CART and Tony...
Max: Go start your own series

Even without FOTA, 2010 grid already full

It's too bad they didn't push harder to give old Max the boot after his Nazi concentration camp sex scandal. Then we might not be seeing this crap. You're right Kristoffer: it does remind me exactly of the CART/IndyCar fiasco. Viewership would certainly be down on a series that suddenly had no marquee drivers, teams or personalities (just like at the start of IndyCar). But even if all the real teams start their own series, they'll have a ton of work ahead of them, and there's no way they'll get to run at Monaco (just like Indy). Viewership will split, leaving both sides less than happy. Luckily for them (and us) there's much greater fervor for motorsports in Europe (and Brazil), and there's no NASCAR to compete with. I don't think either faction would fold and go away.
And on the plus side, all the tracks/races that Max and Bernie were a pain in the ass on (USGP, Silverstone, etc.) could now be reintroduced. In fact, if the major manufacturers could run in the US again (maybe even more than once a season), it might be worth starting their own series right there.

The split in TV money will make the competing series cash strapped. Just like CART vs. IRL.

And if someone doesn't go kick Button squarely in the nuts, really hard, this season will suck just as bad as when Whole Schumacher used to dominate most of the races. It's just not as much fun to watch when the same guy always wins.
