Daily driver & autox (novice). Should be good enough so that if the autox use continues I don't have to upgrade next season. But also if the autox use is minimal, will not be punishing on the street. I have no clue on BMW.

I have the Bilstein PSS9 installed on my car. I think they feel pretty nice for daily driving and autox because they are adjustable.

Unfortunately, I don't know how it compares to the stock shocks/springs since it came with the car when I bought it.

I do plan on upgrading to AST shocks sold by Vorshlag sometime next year. I hear they ride very nice with great handling.

For a novice, Bilstein HD's will be fine, last the life of the car and keep the car stock legal. With work you probably could get the stock spring to work with the PSS9's...

Is that the same as Bilstein Sport (yellow/blue cover)? Staying with stock springs for now.

HD's are standard length. Sports are a shortened version for lowered cars. Same valving, same yellow/blue colors.

I have Bilstein B6 Sports on mine and love 'em... Monotube design, they're firm, but forgiving on harsh bumps.

However, I too will be upgrading to some AST's ( over the winter I hope )

Do it now & I'll take the Sports.

Not sure what the B6 means. I did get pn's off the Bilstein corp web site. Looks like only 1 fitment for a 1995 M3 (well except for the pss... shocks)

I don't want to wait to season end for new shocks.

HD's are good for stock E36 cars, M3's are lower and need Bilstein Sports not HD. M3's are lower from the factory... Koni Sport seem to be a good choice too but they don't last as long as Bilsteins and more $.
