Because we waste gas/tires for fun...

Post by Yuki Haneda »

... let's atleast recycle and try to be eco friendly???

My father and I made a trash bag holder out of PVC pipes for the next event which will be kept, if wanted, in the motorhome for the events to come. Let's try to make an inititve to recyle the plastic bottles we use and not throw them away in regular trash. I believe we can make quite a lot of money off those things which can be donated to Cal Poly or the Motorhome project or to buy new equipment???

But never the less, its not about the money, but the fact that we are definantly not being friendly to mother nature by using gas and tires and oil and what not for our pleasure and hobbies so lets atleast recycle!

For the event coming up, my father and I will take it to the recycle center but I am not volunteering ourselves to always be doing this ;)

Great idea, thanks!

Since we are doing plastic bottles, might as well have another one for aluminum cans (if you didn't make one for that already)?

Good idea!

I only recycle aluminum cans at home (I bring home the ones I take to an event) crushing them before they go into 13 gal size trash bags. Was surprised the first time I took them in and got nearly $40 for the 4 bags I had. Don't know how the plastic bottles compare.

By weight, it works out to be like 5.29 cents!

here is how my dad and I saw it...

.05 per bottle
estimate everyone drinks 3 a day
i have 80 people registered
and lets say plus guests of who ever
so...
.05 X 3 X 90 = $13.50

Sunday lets say we have a total head count of 150
times lets say people drink 3 bottles a day
thats $22.50

So... $36 per event?

o and times that by 12 weekends...
thats more than $400 per year?

But again its not about the money but rather we are not being so friendly by wasting gas/tires/oil
So lets atleast recycle?

This is an excellent idea. I often think about what resources my various hobbies use up.
I am not sure we are as bad as some might think.
For example my niece plays tennis. They have out of town tournaments almost weekly. Who uses more resources??
Of course it depends on many factors like distance driven # people transported etc. I'm just sayin.

the board could take it up as an item to have the hosting team responsible for recycling.
i see pros and cons, but i don't think it's onerous. just bring the $$ to the next event
it's only paranoia if your wrong

We have had folks in the past do it on their own. With all we have to deal with at a championship/practice, I think it best to let the good Samaritan who is willing to do the collecting have/decide what to do with the proceeds.
