How To? CVC Boot Straps/Clamps

TRE Motorsports suggested that I use CVC Boot Straps to hold the insulating material around the water hose that is too close to the exhaust manifold. I thought it would be obvious how to tighten and secure the band, but it isn't. Haven't turned up anything on the net yet. Suggestions?
I'm assuming there is more to it then just folding down those wings ... after pulling the strap though.

Never seen a strap like that but I would assume you just fold the piece back on itsself then fold the "wings" over it to secure it.

There's a special tool used to tighten those kinds of straps. You can make one yourself by cutting a 1/2" slot longitudinally in a flat bladed screwdriver. Put the strap end in the slot and then twist the screwdriver, rolling up the strap end and and tightening the strap. Pull the rolled up strap end back over the clip on the strap and straighten it out enough to bend the clip sides down over the strap end. Cut off any excess.

Ah ... thanks ... sounds like hose clamps might work easier in the confines under the manifold?

A much easier solution is the braided insulating sleeve you get from McMaster. That's what I use, even on turbo cars, and it works very well.
Also, those heater hoses can be shortened at the firewall end and you will have more clearance while retaining enough flexibility to deal with engine movement.

^^^ Mako, you can get those same DEI locking ties for about half the price & double the quantity (so like 1/4 price? if even that) @ Home Depot. I bought the DEI ones first, then found the Home Depot ones for so much less & you get a larger quantity, DOH! Same exact quality.
In fact, how many do you need? I'll try to remember to bring some w/ me - I'm not using all of them anyway.
