I wonder if the seating surface on the wheel wore or flattened to the point that the lugs could bottom out on the hub and give a small amount of play on the wheel?

That just looks like the most horribly designed wheel ever....

That is one crappy wheel. This saying holds true, more in Racing than anywhere: "You get what you pay for".
