I want to start doing events that count towards Rookie of the Year, I believe were in half of the season already. If I were to start now, would I still be eligible for it? Or would I need to wait for the next season? I've tried looking around but couldn't find anything regarding my answer other than the sticky about Novices. I'm new to the forum by the way, most people remember me as the kid racing the camry. OR "the car with all the people"

I think you'd be eligible, but you'd be far enough behind the people who started at the beginning of the season that you probably couldn't overcome their lead. However, I think you could run it the remainder of this year, then all of next year.

I can't remember if you're eligible or not:

Per the current supplemental regs, this is who qualifies:

A person who has competed in fewer then 4 event weekends per year
(practice, championship or both in a weekend) within the last 5 years.

What's the chances of starting a write in campaign for me and Sourpuss? How about a two day, no-holds-barred..run whatcha brung event, pro-solo style?



honorable mention for best fender mirrors?

best excited utterance when learning you just ran a fast time?

Best sequential cursing once you realized that you're about to eat 5 cones and go off-course?



I'm way out of the running...but I'm down to whup a little novice ass if there an opportunity to mix it up :-0

To bring this back on topic, our OP would be eligible this year for Rookie of the Year, but running enough events to qualify this year means he'll exceed the allowance for next year.

That said, just come out and run. The thrill scores a 10+, you'll be a much safer driver on the street if you have to go into evasive mode, and it's all legal. This much fun usually is legislated out of existence.

There's no time like the present to get your adrenaline rush, and you can work on improving yourself so you can compete in the non-Novice points challenge next year.

Is it still best 6 count for Novice?
Tadd has 6 events, 5 wins and a 94.307.

So, all you have to do to beat him is win 5 of the last 6 and beat him in the other. Good luck! Again, Ping Pong. Trust me.

We are going to give trophies down places too right? We have good participation in this class and a pretty good battle down in 2-5th places. I'd suggest even supplementing the place trophies for Novice.

Just don't sign up with an SST car in Novice and you'll be able to compete...

You probably could have given Tom Berry an EMod index and he still would have won novice.

No, don't do that! Just come out and drive, skip novice for next year when you'll have enough experience to start running - and earning points for a full season - in a non-novice class! Competing in novice isn't worth missing out on a third of a season of racing!

Are you making the assumption that you will actually be competitive enough to win ROY without even testing the waters? Seems like you are setting yourself up for failure and disappointment. You need to get out there and try a few events so you are prepared for next year. Skipping events this season means you are starting out completely green next year, and possibly giving up valuable points in the early rounds you may need.

or, steve's right, you can still win by winning the remaining events in the year..

If you run all the events remaining, 6, you would have the chance to score max points. You just wouldn't have the benefits of drops.
I believe we'll have more than just a first place, so you could certainly be in the hunt for a trophy by running the next 6 events well.
But do you have a competitive car that fits well in a class? That's always going to be a factor in an indexed class.

DO NOT ASSUME THE RULES WILL BE THE SAME NEXT YEAR. This is a new idea, it had changes and controversy this year. I will assume there will be talk of making changes for next year.

Good points, Steve. Tadd is a pretty experienced rookie driving a very well prepared car. In addition, while winning a jacket for ROY is great, the I think the long-term goal is to get better as quickly as you can. Taking six events off and not learning anything seems like a worse option than forgoing the ROY award and soaking in all you can for the next six events. Hell, you never know, Tadd may forget how to drive for the rest of the year, and/or Steve may do something to royally screw up his car.
