Stock Class for a Mercedes SL500?

98 SL500 in particular. Closest I see is the SLK classification, but those are different chassis vehicles.

IF I ever run this car, it would be in CST anyway, but it would be nice to know to which class it belongs.

I looked @ the pdf, and below is the list for Mercedes

- What does "NOC" mean?
- looks like either FS (has a v8) or BS (similar enough to the SLK)?

Mercedes 190 I-4 16v G Stock GS
Mercedes 190 I-6 2.6L G Stock GS
Mercedes 280 G Stock GS
Mercedes C230 190 hp G Stock GS
Mercedes C32 AMG 2002-2004 V6 3.2L Supercharged A Stock AS
Mercedes C320 D Stock DS
Mercedes C36 F Stock FS
Mercedes C63 AMG Super Stock SS
Mercedes CLK F Stock FS
Mercedes CLK55 AMG 2001-2006 V8 5.5L A Stock AS
Mercedes E55 AMG F Stock FS
Mercedes models NOC H Stock HS
Mercedes SLK models NOC B Stock BS
Mercedes SLK32 AMG 2002-2004 V6 3.2L Supercharged A Stock AS
Mercedes SLK350 2005-2007 V6 3.5L A Stock AS
Mercedes SLK55 2005-2006 V8 5.5L A Stock AS

NOC - Not Otherwise Classified

From the beginning of Appendix A:
"All unclassified cars will compete in Super Stock until classified by the
SEB, unless covered by a “catch-all” description."

Since the SL is a sportscar (2 seats) it would not fall into the FS catch-all.

Welcome to Super Stock.

Beyond the fact that it weighs half a ton more than my car, is only offered in an automatic tranny and has three less seats than The Whale? Aren't those restrictions enough? ;)

Thanks for the input Robert.

Looking @ the Appendix, doesn't list anything specific under H Stock as far as I can tell. If it really covers ANY NOC mercedes, there could be a VERY strange set of Mercedes possible in H Stock.

Back to F Stock, what I found is:

"V8 sedans, pick-ups, and sedan derived convertibles NOC"

Exactly what does SCCA consider a "sedan derived convertible"?

The SL500 is based off another mercedes sedan chassis - would that fall under "sedan derived convertible"?

EDIT: and LOL @ Kurt's post.

I would think the "Mercedes NOC" would supercede the Generic V8 Sedan NOC.

BMW 3-Series 2+2 cabriolet is a sedan derived convertible, although it's an NOC car. I don't think the SL wouldn't fall under that because it's distinct model.

Thanks for the info Bob.

Has anyone found any restriction on the HS class as Steve asked? I imagine there has to be some kind of restriction written somewhere; I can't find any yet.

I don't imagine this particular car & driver being competitive in any class, but there are other SL models that are not listed that would be overkill in HS.

Jason, it's black! I'd totally rock an orange one, though, haha.

how they crammed 4,100+ lbs (curb/dry weight) into that car, iono. But the doors are heavy as f***.

The car is a tank, M-B's have been pretty much always overbuilt.

You can e-mail seb@scca.org and ask about it. Wouldn't expect an answer until next week, though.

The world is normal again, I have an HS daily driver & a formerly GS "race car".
Brian Harmer via seb @ scca . org wrote: Hi, Quoc,

The H-Stock listing would be what you go by for the class. The reason it is classed there is because of the weight of the car and the size of it equalizes it to fit into that class.

I asked a follow up question to find out if all other SL vehicles, such as the SL 65 AMG, would fall under HS as well. That car is a lil heavier than my car, but also over twice the hp & torque. Not that I could afford one of those, but yea. Next pro solo I can run HS sk2, lol.

SK2 isn't a national class, though they may include it again locally to draw more entrants.

Don't do it!

I remember there was talk about running sk1 & sk2 during pro solo this year; found the original info:

Steve Ekstrand wrote: Yes, by special arrangement Sk1 & Sk2 are running both the Tour and the Pro. Sign up in AM and they'll sort it out when you check in.
That's where I got the idea for running pro solo in hs sk2. The only national event I participate in is the Pro Solo @ El Toro, so if it's legal there, that's all that matters to me.

Being able to run in HS SK2, or even HS, would be better than running in XP, like I did this year.

In any case, now I get to decide which car I want to take to the next event.

It's gonna be really weird to see that leviathan going up against vintage Civics, Minis and Yarises.

It's kind an oxymoron that SL come from the German Sport Leicht, or Sport Light }:)
Anyway I love these cars congrats for the purchase

Sport Leicht, cool! I made a secret joke class w/ my buddy called "Sport Luxury (SL) Class" - 3500lb+ cars w/ full leather interior only, haha.

Jeff, the gf would have preferred it if I got a lexus sc430. She thinks the SL looks too old, haha. She definitely likes it better
