Looks likely that San Diego will be running Jr Karts at their regional event next year.

Who many people had to die to make that happen??? All I ever heard was "over my dead body".

Finally out ranked I believe. I'm not going to go asking questions though, I'm sure it'll be a slight point of contention.

Basically the SD Region board told them they must allow Junior karts because the Juniors are full SCCA members and SCCA members cannot be rejected from SCCA events for personal reasons. Initially only 8+ year olds, have to run a successful program for a year to allow 5-7 year olds.

Wow, never thought it would happen in SD. Great news, thanks Jason.

Maybe we can stop our SD region boycott. Of course there are no Fj competitors in the Clements household anymore...

It really is all timing...

I was hoping to convince Eric's son to be first off the line. To show what a well run program can result in.

Anthony will be ready in 4 years and 2.5 months. Is the age requirement also 5 yrs for Cal Club?

5 in Cal Club. Robert is 5.

8 in San Diego until they have enough experience to be granted permission to run 5 to 7 kid karts.

Karts aren't allowed in Canada at all - including F125 - similar issues against karts in general.

However a movement is underway as we speak to get FJA/B and F125 running. Mark Sawatsky of Winnipeg is at the forefront of that (he ran a silver Boxster at the SCCA Nationals this year in AS along with his wife, Bridget, and Art Schoeder and his wife Marion). This could be good news for increased numbers in F125 and FJA/FJB at Nationals.

For those interested - moving essentially from west to east. There are some different discussions/responses on each forum:

VCMC (Vancouver):

CSCC (Calgary):

WSCC (Winnipeg):

Seems like the reasoning used in SD that finally got te karts running would work in Canada as well. If kids under 16 are full SCCA members, it's pretty tough to come up with a good argument for why they shouldn't run. It'd be kinda like a region saying they don't like Miatas, so they're not going to allow them.

Safety has never been the real issue ever. Its tossed out there sure, but by people who don't like karts.

I am happy to announce that there is no more 'maybe run in San Diego in 2010' or 'likely to run in San Diego in 2010'. Junior Karts WILL run, starting in Jan. It was made official tonight at our Board Meeting. We have some unhappy people, but SCCA events are SCCA events, and you cannot turn SCCA members away for personal reasons.

Steve Ekstrand wrote: Safety has never been the real issue ever. Its tossed out there sure, but by people who don't like karts.
Safety was NEVER brought up in San Diego as a reason not to allow them. Simply because the safety issues are to easy to refute. What is strange is that the people most likely to oppose karts are those who don't run with them. The more you run with them, the less you care. In my experience, the more you run with them, the less you even notice them.

It's all a crazy, long, boring story.

Boring but not so long.

Cliff Note version: Argued kid carts would slow down event by being slow, ego reality was an unlicensed pipsqueak could take TTOD away from those who have held it since Adam & Eve.

This is actually a pretty decent summation. Add a little 'what we did in the '70's' and you have it.

Renew your solo card Craig, I have no desire to look at another foraged cancelled check.

Could be wrong here, but think Adam & Eve predated the '70's... unless you were thinking more of Adam and Steve...thats become more prevalent since.

I have no desire to have to find one... but I have a few months, plus SCAT has typically paid for SCAT members, some reason I get left off of the list.

Um, so Warren, you agree that the concept that a Jr. kart might take TTOD away from somebody is a decent summation?
......just curious

Neither the spoken objection, or the fear are true. But they are the reality of the years of objections at the board meetings.

It is what it is. Did everyone object, no. But enough did that the inclusion was never made till now.

One, because I have no 1st hand info on the approval. Two, 'cause I don't go there but once a month or so anymore, and mostly observe.

Solved.
