If I was to hypothetically purchase a Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T with the track package, would I be stuck with the 19" wheels that come with the package, or could I buy a set of 18" wheels (and more importantly, tires) that reflect what the standard version of the 2.0T coupe comes with?

I think I know the answer, but I figured it's worth asking.

You would be stuck with the 19s that come with the package - assuming you're running in stock class.

I think it's more complicated than that. you need to find out if the 19's are the only option for that option package. If it's possible to buy the "track package" with 18's then you can run them even if you didn't buy the car with 18's.

Track package includes all items in Base and Premium package plus the following:

Black leather seat bolsters with red seat cloth (Could be comfort and convenience assuming no change in actual seat from premium edition power seats)
19-inch alloy wheels / summer tires2 (Not a stand alone option on Premium Ed)
Brembo® braking system (Not a stand alone option on Premium Ed)
Track-tuned suspension (No mention of what this consists of)
Torsen® limited-slip differential (Not a stand alone option on Premium Ed)
Aluminum pedals (Not listed in brochure, not a comfort and convenience item per prior protests)
Aero wiper blades (Depending on what they are, could be argued comfort & convenience.)
Rear spoiler (Not a stand alone option on Premium Ed)
HID Xenon headlights (Not a stand alone option on Premium edition)
Front fog lights (Not a stand alone option on Premium edition)

I think your SOL on the 18" wheels w/ track package as the entire package is an upgrade to the lower models with no items being available on a stand alone basis.

edit: The question then becomes what in the Track Package is desirable over the base or premium for autocross purposes. Looking over the list only two items stand out to me: Brakes and suspension, LSD. Your out of luck on the LSD, no way around that one. I can't find any details on the brakes and suspension. Working within Solo rules can/would you want to modify the track package items anyway. May be a mute point.

OTOH, it might make a cool STX car.
Which means you could run 18's or whatever else fits...

Check to make sure there isn't a winter/all season option for the car.

They are coming out with a "tuner" version called the "R-Spec", it'll cost less, and weigh a little less, but according to this article still comes with the stupid 19s.

Calculate tire budget and translate that to STX mods.

OK, but calculate the price per run of a 19".

Giving 20 runs per front tire and 60 runs per rear tire....

$45 per run. 100 runs per year minimum? $4500?

If you could run 17's instead in STX, the Star Specs would be about $600 a set (instead of $1272) and last way longer.

That is if 17"s will clear those brakes. You might get great life out of ST tires on a 2klbs Civic, but I have not found the tires to last any longer than an R on my car. Of course shaving them to 3/32nds helps to promote that short tire life. I think that car has way to much pork to be an STX contender.

Kurt, just buy my Shelby...weighs about the same, goes a lot faster, tires cost less and is a proven winner ;)

Unfortunately, my wife informed me that if I try to drive the Shelby home, I might as well just keep driving to the nearest motel and check in. She thought it was ... uh ... too masculine. I'd share her exact words, but this is a family board

It's a bummer too, because everything I've heard about it has been positive.

If I remember correctly, Isley said the Shelby was a "stripper's car"...

didn't hold me back and I've had zero regrets, the car is a blast and the "macho" stripes and stuff aren't really too noticeable from behind the wheel!

It has been a great car...solid, fun to drive, and economical.

I don't think that will help you sell it. I believe Ford coined the Mustang as a secretary's car, and the number one buyer of Mustangs is women - and men that want to look like them so they grow a mullet.

I'm not too worried about selling it or not selling it, at this point. If I really wanted to move the car, I'd take the parts off, sell the car locally through craigslist for $25-26,000, sell the parts individually and net out more than I'm asking for the car all set up and ready to go.

Besides (no offense to Kurt's wife), if someone is worried about the "image", this isn't the right car for them...if someone wants a great driver that can win Nationals and bring a smile to their face everytime they get on the throttle, it IS the right car.

If I came home with another vehicle from the Hyundai Motor Corp. of America my wife would stand on a chair and punch me in the face...
