Very nice car and nice deal, but it is out of my budget range.

I told Greg he just needs a co-driver to help pay for tires and he's good to go! He's also got to stop taking those expensive trips overseas and just budget for Lincoln ...

How hard of a car are the S2000s to drive?

pretty tough to get right. One of the hardest cars i have ever driven to try and go fast in. Both autocross and track.

Tadd yes and no.
S2000's
Yes: Easy car to drive under normal circumstances.
No: past about 8 tenths, becomes wicked to handle (snap happy).
Yes: Once one learns the snap happy twitch, a BLAST to play with! (Thank you Ron T.)
Jeff's Cars:
Set up well, till new owners attempt to improve.... You wouldn't happen to know one of them would you?

I had a bad experience in an AP1 that had some issues.... But then again far better drivers than I did the same thing that day in that car.
I drove Prosser's car in the SCNAX Cup and I was pretty apprehensive of letting go in the car.... But I really liked it. Of course, I wasn't blisteringly fast in it, but I felt like I could definitely improve as I trusted it more. I had more trouble that day keeping George's Miata and Steve's C5 moving forward. After Prosser's I don't have S2000 fear anymore... Respect, but not fear.

,,, really. Pete Loney's S2000 is probably the perfect car in terms of power and handling! I thought it's balance was wonderful. Penske's, valved by Guy Ankeny, custom Ankeny front sway bar, CR Springs ... on the small R tire combination: 245's.
Pete got down to 69.5 in the SCNAX Cup. I think Joey said he only got into the 70.XXX ... with the tires from Nationals. On the other hand Jonathan L also got down to 70.XXX in a ST Civic!

I think the AP-2 is a lot nicer and easier to drive than the AP-1.
The AP-2 has more low end torque so you can pretty much leave it in second gear. The trade off is that you may have to go to third gear or ride the rev limiter alot.
The AP-1 requires you to go down to first gear if you want to be in VTEC. However, better drivers than me (EVO instructors) are able to leave it in second and carry more speed. My favorite saying is that you have to drive it like you stole it. }:)
In short, AP-1 is raw where the AP-2 is more refined.
You may have to go for a few test runs? :ibrightdea:

What year did the AP2 come out? I think the Cole's S2000 must be a AP1 ... peaky, has that VTECH turbo like rush. The power is much more progressive with Pete's.

AP-1 (2000-03)
AP-2 (2004-up)
I think the Coles have an AP-2?
AP-2 has 17 in wheels. i.e. better tire selection.
AP-1 has 16" wheels.
AP-1 suspension requires $
AP-2 suspension was good enough to win Nationals with just a front swaybar change. (CR version in 08)

So Jeff's AP2 is desirable
(Nice thing about Penske's ... say they leak ... you just take them over to Guy and he can likely fix them while you wait. Cost us $50. Leonard is having to mail his newly rebuilt Bilstein fronts back because they're leaking. Such a drag to have to mail shocks. I remember Jeff B. having to send his Koni's back and forth to New Jersey something like three times! Max is still waiting for his AST shocks from Holland after something like 3 months!)

The CR version is the one I would really want. (But $ is also a big factor)
I think factory shocks will also leak at some point and require an aftermarket solution.

This car is very well set-up, and easy to drive fast. Yes, it is loose, but very easy to control. This car does not need shocks, the stock shocks are wonderful, ride and handling.
And yes, an MX5 for STR is next for me.

All S2000s are desirable. IMO
Jeff's car would be perfect for SK1 and a beautiful daily driver. Just show up to the event in a competitive car and drive back home.
Not everyone wants to look like "Go Speed Racer" like me. (CR)
Why do you think I am #500? Cuz #5 is taken. (Go is #5 in Japanese)
Older cars like mine (+100K mi) may be headed for the ST class when things break and become opportunities to upgrade.

Depends where you live, Bilstein is near San Diego.
