CSCC Pace Car ... Who Knew ?

Karen and I went up to Buttonwillow yesterday so she could check out this track. She WAS going to do a track day there a few weeks ago. We decided to put the money towards Vette tires instead. We were meeting up with John Kestler ... owner of Shannon Race Cars:
http://shannonracecars.com/ ... who was checking in with his old Sports 2000 competitors. John's personal S2000 should be finished after another 200 meticulous Racer hours of labor. He's first going to Auto Cross it as a shake down. :gpower:

It was cool running into Renee, Gayle, Bob and Maggie. Renee as always was running the Grid. Gayle was helping with Registration and Maggie and Bob were helping out on course.

Renee asked Karen if she wanted to get a ride in the Pace Car. You should have seen the smile on Karen's face! Made Her Day getting to see the course ... twice.

Interesting ... the CSCC Pace Car was donated by Nissan. It was a test car ... serial number 00000038. We were allowed to have it, with the understanding that it couldn't be licensed and driven on the streets. It has to be trailered to venues.

Looks like it is marking it's spot just like my British car does----except we leave a spot of oil not the contents of the radiator. No wwonder it has to be trailered to events---

We keep hearing how can Papa CalClub can help. See if they can get another car donated to use as the Trophy Dash car.

I offered to help get a Suzuki SX4 Sport sedan for a trophy dash car through my Suzuki connections. Then the discussion degenerated into who was going to keep/maintain any trophy dash car.

The Nissan pace car can't be licensed for the street because it's a pre-production vehicle. Pre-prod cars are not Federalized, so once they leave the test/press fleet of the automaker they are not legal for use on public roads.

All the BMW Z3s at the Andretti school in Vegas [was Derek Daley's] are pre-production. Most of pre-prod cars are driven until something breaks or used for training mechanics. When it's all over, they're crushed unless they become pace cars or go to racing schools. Not all automakers have pre-production vehicles, mostly it's the big companies.

I thought we had the Mechanic, and storage locations worked out a year ago. Eric, and Tom respectfully. It was then a matter of funds when (drawing a blank on the young ladies name) was attempting to sell her Toyota Celebrity race Celica... then it stalled.

That was Ashley. She moved to the East Coast, though, and I don't know if she brought the car with her or sold it.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

That interior looks immaculate! The guys on the Nissan forums would love seeing some high quality mako pics of engine/interior/etc of #38 test vehicle.

So, are you guys picking it up?

Anyone else notice that the pace car has big brakes (Z32?) and an exhaust? I wonder what other goodies it has...

Another Nissan castaway hard at work, Sentra #81. Only thing faster than a rental car is a $1 car, or someone else's car.

That was nothing. Buttonwillow was way more fun, it actually required a little countersteering. :unimpressed:
