Stickin' it to the queen...

Some queen bee has to set up shop in my bike seat and it costs me $180 to have them removed. $5 at the automated carwash that didn't work, $175 to the bee guy. That's over 1000 bees there. I do have to say it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. Strangely silent, didn't care that I was right there taking pictures.

What did the bee guy do, exactly?

Put the queen and most of her suitors in a box. Had to whack about 100 of them. The survivors will be going to a honey place in Ojai.

I had a big window A/C unit in my house that I got rid of...the power cord went through the wall, and when I took it out, I only patched the inside and left a 1" hole in the plaster in the on the outside. Well the bees found it and thought it would make a great hive, you could hear them buzzing from inside the house.
I had to pay the bee guy, he lured the workers out with some queen juice, killed them all and then entombed the queen inside the wall.
I guess you could say that section of my wall is a cata-honey-comb.

I guess you got the kinder and gentler exterminator....
I had the bees come through the gap in an ill fitting dryer vent. My exterminator took more of a "scorched-earth-kill-them-all" approach and used a white powder to kill them. Only cost about $150 and I got to clean up the corpses.
My dog paid them no attention whatsoever and went in and out through her doggy door right through the swarm and never got stung.

I had a swarm take up residence in my kitchen vent. Pest guy did the white powder routine. I got left with the clean-up. I had to take the kitchen hood off to get the piles of dead bees out. I tried to get the honey out but that chore was just too much without ripping out the entire duct. The honey gummed up the fan so bad it no longer works. One of these days I'll replace it after the honey has fossilized.

Okay Tom, now the really bad news: archeologists have recovered honey from Egyptian tombs. It was still good...
Methinks you'd best tackle the project whenever you'd like a functioning hood.

I think that's what I was saying.

Something very hot would have to freeze over first.
