Please help us make a good starting decision here. Other combination suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Not sure what class were running? At this point we are out to have fun, really not that worried about what class we will be in. General rule is get there first, second place is not an option.

Looks like a cool car for STU! Dunlops would be a good choice for a heavy car like your Mustang.
I would look for 18" wheels that allow you to run a 275 or 265 square set-up. Staggered
wheels and tires won't provide enough front grip. 255s won't put power down as well
as 275s. You could also go with the taller 275/40-17s on 9-10" wide wheels all around,
to save some $. I would love to see a well set-up GT for STU.

For the Rustang, I'd think the 275's on a 17" rim would probably put power down
better than the 18" option. If I remember right when Dave Schotz won ESP he had a
narrower tire but taller sidewall than his competitors.

17X10 front with a 275. 16X10 rear with 265.
However, Madarash, who has won the last few years is on 18"s.
For STU you will need ever mm you can get. 18X10 with 285s would be a good start.

Then I would sign up for CST. This is a "run what ya brung" class on street tires.

You did not mention your other mods in the previous thread. You are well beyond STU trim, not an option. SM or CST - however, some of your subframe connectors and braces may not even be legal in SM, need to see some pics.

Welcome to the land of the Prepared----as in CP.

If you want to run street tires, CST is for you. Other than tires, it's virtually run whatcha brung so no need to worry much about legality. And not being a national class brings the advantage of lower-pressure competition. But there is no counterpart class in national SCCA rules, so you won't have a good ride should you want to do national tours or pro-solo.

As Don suggested, you could also run CP. But go with something like Hoosier A6's. CP usually runs a little faster than CST, but you'd have grippier tires, so it might be a wash. And we could use the entries.

As to tire size, note that national F-STOCK mustangs are now running 295/30-18's on undersized rims. And they set killer times, so it obviously works. I would think the lesson learned is to go with the largest tire you can and then choose a compatible wheel.

I've never cared for the concept of developing a car on one tire with the intent of competing on a better tire. But 710's are also excellent tires for heavier cars. National results would generally favor Hoosiers. It's a call.

I'd love to see more participation in Prepared class. I've decided to run the full season next year in CPM, even though I'm running Dunlops. It'd be cool if more than just the three of us showed up.

What prepared class does your car run?

I would recommend that you run the first year on the street tires or Kumho V710's. Your driving learning curve will be very steep initially and you will probably be overdriving whatever tires you have on the car. It would be cheaper to learn on the street tires as they will take more punishment and you will learn faster because they will show you your driving errors. The stickier tires will hide some of your driving errors and will be used up faster.
