Should have been posted in PP so we could discuss why we even have laws like this. :D

Came from my motorcycle forum where you can imagine the responses. Everyone was "Yay, about time" "We need more of this!" Despite the supposed findings that say cell phone users don't cause more accidents, in my experience riding a bike to work everyday, I am definitely less likely to be noticed by some one on a cell.

The problem with cell phone use and driving is that many drivers are not skilled drivers so they pay more attention to the conversation. Hands free devices do not prevent distraction. They just give the driver one more free hand to smoke or drink. laws are all or nothing so hand use phones were an easy target (or freedom to take away). Texting and driving is just stupid. I can’t believe we had to pass a law to prevent texting and driving.

I wish we could ticket police for this. On my way to work yesterday I passed by 6 CHP, all talking on their cell phones. Come to think of it, they might have been on a confrence call trying to decide where to go to lunch.

Yep. Couldn't we just pass a law to outlaw stupid people? "Stupidity While Driving", and the officer gives a scale of 1 to 100 for level of stupidity. Once you have a certain number of points, we vote you off the planet.

Good. Not big on passing laws to regulate people, unfortunately too many ignorant people on the planet.

That's the first time I've heard of any enforcement of the cell phone law.

Good to know. I am flying down again to enjoy my Z06 and planned to stay near Redondo/Manhattan Beach area.

OH, this law... is bluetooth headsets OK to use?

I didn't see anything in the article if they are and I live 2000 miles away from LA so don't see the TV news or papers to know.

Cell phone use in an emergency is legal... it could have been an emergency, happy hour was almost over. :-D

- pull behind the police officer
- flash your high beams & honk your horn
- walk up to the officer & ask "do you know why I stopped you today, officer?"
- please have it on camera!

I like what Rick said. I bet stupid people get into more accidents than people talking on their cell phones.

Stupid law. A person with a blue tooth who is "dialing" the cell phone - won't get a ticket. And s/he is LOOKING at the phone, not the road.

Voice activated calling, say the name, the phone does the rest.

When it works. Some systems do, others suck.
