Well we've (clarification my wife) have (had) owned Zelda since new in 1991. She was in a small fender bender on Friday, but due to her age and current value the Insurance company is more than likely totaling her. (The estimate I received was nearly double her value.) I'm awaiting an adjuster to make a final determination when they come to our house this morning.

We'd like to keep and fix her, but economically it may just not make sense. The estimate listed the cost of parts alone at $2500, I found all of them from an internet Acura dealer for $1800 inc shipping and tax... and every part (OEM even) at a local junk yard for $550. But add Labor, paint etc, and it still... just don't see it, unless I could find volunteer assistance on the labor, specifically the cutting and welding needed. (No frame damage, just a cross bar that supports the radiator and a few other pieces.)

Will post pictures as soon as I can figure out how to make 2MB files 515K files.

Who names their cars? What else have you named?

We just had a death in family, too. It was a 1996 Maxima. We never named it. We referred to it at first as "Dad's new car". About a month later it became known as Stacy's car, then Wendy's car, then Joey's car. Joey has the unfortunate distinction of being the last one to ever drive cars once known as "Dad's new car", to their final resting place. Four in all. None of them had names. Since the kids are gone, I just refer to my vehicles now as the Honda, the Mini, the Benz or my truck. Boring I know. I just never could see naming a car.

If it's a front fender, that probably bolts on, so maybe no welding is needed?

Some web album sites will automatically down rez your photo files ... and then you can copy/paste the right click obtained "Copy Image Location" address here. I don't know which sites do that off hand.

We learned in that other thread of the cars owned, that many have named their cars.

My wife named this car based, based upon the License plate alpha portion"ZEL". I have young girls that have named the remainder, "Franklin the turtle" for the Green Jetta Wagon, and "Serious Black" for the Miata from the Harry Potter series. Gotta give it to them, the names do go with the personalities of the cars.

Bob, They called this part an upper bulk head. It's a welded part of the front core that the fenders bolt to.

If it is totaled, what is the buyback cost for the car? Most insurance companies offer this.

I named our Civic, Little Liberace.

Sixteen in total (several of which are grouped or packages of parts), but in that pic #6 for sure, until torn down can be sure of #2 at this time. I can get an entire front clip from the Junk yard (A pillar forward, of three junk yards I found the part that's the only way they'll sell it), but they want more than the single part price, and more welding, parts removal, and painting ect would be involved then too. It's the only part involved that New from Dealer is cheaper than used.
