Has anyone heard definitively whether 140+ treadwear-shod cars will be allowed to run as separate SK classes, or whether they'll have to run in their respective stock classes against R-comped opponents?Aaron Goldsmith wrote:Registration has opened for the 2010 San Diego National Tour

I'm thinking I'd like to do this event but don't want to drive to San Diego and back on 710's. Anyone willing to take tires/wheels and jack from Garden Grove to SD and back?

Yeah Chad, just what I need, to get smooshed in a class that I wasn't competitive in to begin with.
In any case, I'd like to find out how I stack up in AS.

Hey guys,
With the SD Tour coming up, I was just wondering if we had a sound meter in the Trailer? Just thought for those who plan on attending that are new or having trouble with sound (like me) can use it to get a good idea of where we are at. I've been having trouble down in SD during regular events and am losing "opportunities" to adequately pass sound down there. Since we're not as strict up here i thought we could measure harm free. Does anyone have one? I believe the one we use in SD is a regular Radio Shack unit.

We do have a sound meter. I think we (calclub) should adopt the national db limit at all sites, sound sensitive or not.

Re: 2010 San Diego National Tour (Reg is open)
Well, i'd hope they aren't using a Radio Shack unit, it's been a while since I've done sound down there, but I had heard they had gotten a used Type 1 unit when they started doing sound down there. The inexpensive sound meters are all type 2, type 2 units aren't accurate in the frequencies that cars create most of their noise in. I'm sure that the national staff will be using Type 1 meters for the national events.Jonathan Lugod wrote:Hey guys,

Buying a type 1 meter isn't the big issue, the stand alone units can be had for 300 or so bucks. The big problem is that to run a sound meter correctly we need to put it on course, which means 2 more workers per group on course. We can't staff our groups as it is. So we'd want a unit that would remotely display sound readings in the motorhome, that way there would be no spotter needed. I found several solutions both purchasable and homebrew to make this work really well with Type 2 meters. Having to use a Type 1 meter is the problem, they seem mostly designed for lab use with poor rs232 connections with terrible software for their outputs at best. There is a company in England that makes remote sound metering tech for motorsport but it's piiiiiicy. I've even considered just throwing a Type 1 meter out on course with a remote camera on the display, but i'd much rather be able to log the data so you can scroll back in case you've missed something.
Mike and I did a bunch of research on this at the beginning of the year. I spoke with folks that sell the units and did a lot of looking.
I've got a cheap type 2 that I got off amazon for general readings. We just make sure we're way under on that and we made a trip down to SD to check if we were legal last month.

San Diego used to have a good Type 1, but I think it was stolen.

So is that why SD sound has been kinda flaky lately? They aren't using a type 1 meter?

Hello, I am from the SF region. Me and my brother are planning on running FSP in the SD tour.
Are there any FSP cars down south that is going to run in the tour? I don't want to drive down there for nothing, actually we may cancel if there isn't at least 1 more person in FSP.
Hope to see you guys next month,
Justin Tsang

There are a couple of FSP cars that participate in the tour. Nathan Roof would be the one to count on for competition. He drives an AE86 Corolla.Justin Tsang wrote:Hello, I am from the SF region. Me and my brother are planning on running FSP in the SD tour.
