Toyo tire question

Ok I see the following sizes.

195/50R15 82V 170100 5.5-6.0-7.0 22.8 7.8 8/32
205/50R15 86V 170030 5.5-6.5-7.5 23 8.5 8/32
225/45ZR15 87W 170140 7.0-7.5-8.5 23 8.9 8 /32

I know the '89 crowd has moved back from the 225's to the 195's. Is there a reason the 205's aren't being used? It would seem the extra 7/10 of an inch width would be useful, and a compromise with the extra weight of the 225's.

Additionally what was the Hankook someone tested recently, and how do you think it holds up to the Toyo.

How will the new Star Spec 195/50/15's and 205/50/15's will measure up based upon how well they have done in the larger tire sizes?

More specifically to my application, what size were the Miatas shoe'd with at Nationals?

The 225 Toyo doesnt weigh anymore than the 195. According to my arm lift test method. It has more to do with the toyo being stretched, giving it more sidewall support and ability to run lower pressures (which it likes).

I tested the 225 Hankooks and are a very good tire that last a long time while keeping its grip very consistent. It is a weather dependent tire however, which makes it tough to go fast right off the bat (Toyo and Bridgestone work great in this aspect). The Kooks need a lot of initial (first run) heat in order to perform up to par. They will last from Full tread to Cords

The 195/205 Dunlop... hard to say. When i ran the 195/55R15 Dunlop I felt that the grip was on par with the RE01R at the time. The issue with that tire was how narrow and tall the tire was. Not that its out with a competitive size, I think it should do fairly well. Its still a tire that needs good heat from the first run to do well, and it also handles the heat very well.

The Miatas at Nats were using the 225 Hankook or the 225 Toyo, couple were on 205 Bridgestones.
