Ruth Flowers has a typical name for a 69-year-old lady, but what the British grandma does for a living now is not typical at all: she’s a DJ.
Ruth is now the “DJ Queen” conquering clubs throughout Europe, especially France, where she is quite popular and “hard to get”. Wearing bling-bling jacket and giant black sunglasses, the old lady is playing in trendy nightclubs.
Known in her circle as Mamy Rock, Ruth began her twilight career at 65, after attending her grandson’s birthday party in a nightclub in London. She soon fell in love with the energetic beats and rhythms of the disco. Unlike other people of her age, Ruth found herself enjoying the noisy music.
The old lady, formerly a trained singer, started right away to learn to handle the music instruments, machines and how to be a DJ.
Her teacher, 28-year-old French producer Aurelien Simon, said she is really talented. "I explained the basics of electro music, and then she created her own style."
''I like to mix the old and the new, so I might put electro alongside an old favourite like the Rolling Stones,'' Ruth says.
