Is there some sort of protocol about picking a number for an event? Should it be 2-digit or 3-digit, and is there a minimum or suggested size?

Edit: Quick summary
You have to purchase a points card to have a number reserved that you can use at every event (and to compete in the Championship). Otherwise you will be assigned a random 600 number at every event. The number you choose must be between 200 and 999 and can't start with 6.

Nobody's going to throw you out if you don't follow the letter of the law, but if you numbers are hard to read you'll be told, and if there impossible to read, you'll be told to change them.

The actual rules are numbers are to be a minimum of 8" tall with a 1.25" stroke. Letters are to be 25 to 75% of the number height, minimum 4" with a .75" stroke. The numbers and letters all need to be the same color, font, style.

Just out of curiosity, how do you make the magnetic ones? I recently bought a sheet of magnet and cut them out with scissors, but it took a good amount of time. I'm sure you have some faster way of doing it.

Scissors are a PITA. if you can, grab an exacto knife or similar to trim it up. I got one at big lots, you could probably snag a cheep one somewhere. Its much sharper so you'll get less jagged edges and works better on curved shapes since the tip is very small.

I bought an exacto knife for exactly this purpose, but after 2 numbers it quickly became apparent that scissors would be easier. It probably had mostly to do with the fact that I didn't have a good flat working surface though...

Nice meeting you, Jayson, and I'm really pleased with the numbers...at 10 inches tall, possibly the largest ever affixed to an autocross car. I'm sure timing and scoring will appreciate their gi-normousness.

Jay's work is great. I started working with him after I ordered from one of the "professional" on-line sources and was sorely disappointed with their quality.

So far he's been able to do anything I asked for. I think the new numbers for the STR M coupe look fantastic! Now if I can just get the car running long enough to actually use 'em...
