My sister is kindly sending me a $200 gift certificate for Home Depot.

I'm thinking I'd like an air compressor in my garage.

I would only use it for tire inflation and occasional impact gun use, so it does not need to be huge. But, I do want to be able to able to have enough power to get a stubborn nut off!

For impact driver home use I'd recommend getting at least a 20 gallon storage tank. These are on wheels so it can be easily rolled about the garage. An upright unit with larger storage capacity would be even better, but may be overkill for home use and you lose portability.

Plus you can always hook up your air tank that you bring to the track inline if you need a bit more capacity. The good compressors these days are VERY quiet.

I bought that Dewalt a couple months ago. Pretty happy with it. It's unique in that it stores at 200+psi, which in turn gives you the same amount of usable air in a smaller package than 135psi compressors. Charging to 200 means I can shut it off and still operate for a long time airing up car tires, air blasting the saw dust, etc. Reviews say it's not good with keeping up with high air demand stuff. Sanders, rotory tools, and I can definitly see that, but usually electric is better for these devices anyways. But low air demand, seems like a good way to go. It's loud, but I've heard much louder. Store your tires as far away from this (and all electric motors) as you can.

You can come by and look at mine if you want.

I was curious of the same thing... Googled it and this is what I found on the Goodyear website;

Don't store tires near electric motors or other ozone-generating sources

Don't really know what they mean by "ozone" but apparently it degrades the tires.

Less SCFM at 90psi, but should still be able to power a decent gun.

I am familiar with the term ozone, I was just unaware that it was produced by electric motors.

It's produced with electric arc's in air, which electric motors do by design and most other large electric draw devices. It's that 'electrical' smell. Very bad for rubber, not so good for you either.

the prices don't show up for me when I hit the links. What's the diff? I'd err on the 200psi one. it really sucks when you don't have enough. I have an 60 gallon stand-up model from Sam's club, 10 years old. So much air.

Looks like a good choice for the money. You have a nice sister.

Husky is $179. DeWalt is $389.

Husky has bigger tank, DeWalt has higher SCFM.

I don't recommend any Home Depot air compressor. They're noisy self-destructing POS.

But that's where the gift certificate is for

SCFM is how good it is at keeping up with demand. If the DeWalt ratings for 'keeping up' weren't great, less is going to be bad. Also, you need to multiply gallons by tank pressure to get an equal comparisson of 'contained air'. That's were the Dewalt really stands up. 200psi x 15 gallons = 150psi x 20gal = 130psi x 23gal = 115psi x 26gal.
