Wondering if there are any guidelines for tires for these 2 classes.

Historic has both stock tire (aka DOT race rubber) rule set classing, and a local "SK" or street tire (aka ST tire) rule set classing.

SM requires DOT approved tires, so R compounds are fine but you can't use any slicks.
Edited to add: since that was your first post, I don't want to assume you're familiar with the difference. Any R compound tire will have DOT approval (though that *doesn't* mean it's advisable to use it on the street). The most common in Solo are Hoosier's A6 and Kumho's V710.
Slicks, on the other hand, are exclusively for racing and don't receive any DOT inspection or approval.
This isn't a slick:

To expand slightly: For Stock Class cars in Historic, you use HIST as your pax class and SS thru HS as your regular class if on tires with under 140 treadwear. If on tires 140 or greater treadwear you use SSH thru HSH as your regular class which gives you an additional .975 index.
This is only for Stock Class cars in Historic.
