I apologize for posting such a basic question, but after spending too much time on a couple of BMW forums I concluded there is NO consesus, so I turn to my CSCC mates.

For the s50US engine it seems a FULL SYNTHETIC is NOT REQUIRED, but the engine does like a multi with a hot weight of at least 40.

If Mike S looks at this post, I did come across a thread regarding the flickering oil light & post/email me if you want that info. Oil pump nut & oil pickup tube stuff.

Personally, I do like synthetics or semi syn as the OC interval is a bit longer & engine internals stay cleaner.

:)

Bob, please e-mail Mike Miller (he answers questions for two BMW magazines: BIMMER, and of course BMWCCA's mag...The Roundel)

My problem is solved Bob. New oil pump, new rod bearings and it's good to go.

I'd go with whatever flavor oil you like. Mobil 1 is a good choice, but just about anything will do if the car isn't being wound out to redline every weekend.

Mike
