Ok. England choked like I knew they would. Go USA
Argentina handed Nigeria a deserved butt kicking, the Super Eagles wasted so many chances and really got lucky with their incredible keeper. They better get their act together for the match up with Greece.
South Korea was on fires, surprised
and Ghana got the job done too.

I predict USA loses to Germany 3-0 in round 1 of the knockout.
But hey. That means I predict they advance.

As long as they advance, kinda worried a little because that goal was a blatant England goal keeper mistake.
Germany is not cutting the Aussies any break 2:0 already and game is not over.

Re: FIFA World Cup
I saw most of the game. I love Heyward Wagner's description of USA defense. ;)
England score 4 minutes in sure looked like time to wrap up America's hopes. But Howard is an amazing keeper. The poor team defense means he gets pounded and he defends well. But yeah... The USA goal was uninspiring for sure.... Hopefully Slovenia and Algeria will be easy marks for the US. But what happens in Group C if England and USA each have two wins by the same scores? I need to read the tiebreaker. I don't see ANY hope against Germany in the first round. But if we could get the win in Group C and play Ghana or Australia then wow... Things could get exciting!

Well, North Korea held their ground. I was expecting something like a 6:0 loss giving that they went up against the #1 team in the world. 2:1 is not bad, really surprised that they even got a goal in.

i wonder if kim jon il stages a fake victory in the world cup for the returning players.
that first goal from brasil was pretty gnarly. i wouldn't have thought there was enough room to angle a kick like that in.

Yup! That goal is sick. Certainly proved why they are ranked #1, that shot is pure skill. Some people are saying that he was aiming for something else and the ball just curved in ... no way.Jeff Shyu wrote:i wonder if kim jon il stages a fake victory in the world cup for the returning players.

North Korea played with heart and I was actually really impressed. Yes, they made many mistakes but in the end they showed the world that they very much deserve their position in the CupTheo Osifeso wrote:Well, North Korea held their ground. OTOH, I'm mad at Brazil for being lazy and underestimating their opponent. I'm also mad at Robinho and his attempts at self-glory with those long straight shots that were a complete waste. Brazil had their chance of 6-0 but they didn't fight for it. They better get their act together for hte next game or I will stop wearing my Brazil jacket to work :mrt:
If the outcome of the Cup were solely based on the first games, Brazil has no chance against Germany if they meet. Of course we know that's not true.
I'm excited about tomorrow. :gpower:

Great assessment Lily. It almost felt like Brazil was toying with North Korea until they realize that they came to play for real.Lily Liu wrote:North Korea played with heart and I was actually really impressed. Which teams are your favourite tomorrow. I'm predicting a Chille, Spain, Uruguay sweep. Although I kinda want South Africa to win

I was rooting for Honduras, even though I knew Chile was going to win. You know, must support my Central American brothers ;)
Definitely Spain (I'm trying to watch it right now...Univision online sucks) and I also think Uruguay will win against SA
\
Actually... I really want Spain to win this Cup. Hopefully they can pull it off

Re: FIFA World Cup
My MBA class picked Spain to win while I stuck with Germany.
Class should have listened to their professor.... Of course, Spain could still win the World Cup.....

Yes, the way this World Cup is going, we're going to end up seeing something like Serbia vs Uruguay for the final and Nigeria vs Chile battling it out for 3rd
Hope England doesn't disappoint today!

From England's point of view, a US Slovenia draw was probably not a bad result. Let's hope they can make the most of it.Lily Liu wrote:Yes, the way this World Cup is going, we're going to end up seeing something like Serbia vs Uruguay for the final and Nigeria vs Chile battling it out for 3rd![]()
