In case you haven't noticed - registration for the 2010 Ladies School is now open! Buying an entry to the school for a special lady in your life would make a great gift!
The school is not just for autocrossers or would-be autocrossers. Women who want to improve general driving skills and gain confidence for the street can benefit from learning the basic car-handling techniques and coaching provided in a safe and controlled environment. In the past, it is this population that has, in fact, made up the largest portion of the student population. This includes new drivers (i.e. new drivers license). We have also had students there to drive powerful sports cars in a safe and controlled environment. This is also a great way to introduce ladies who are curious just to see if they "would like it". At one school, we had one student who was brought in "kicking and screaming" because she did not want to do it. By the time lunch rolled around we had trouble getting her out of the car because she was having so much fun!
Help us get the word out about the school. Thank you!

I've had one dad ask it it's OK for his daughter with a Permit? I thought so as long as they sign Jr. Waivers?

Mako - yes, as far as I know. The only thing is that we have to have an instructor in the car with such a student at all times. I have one instructor (Jo Ann Lynch) who is willing to do that. We may be able to take on additional students with such restrictions - but we will need to have a "special line" for them to park and get out while their instructor is with someone else. I don't think they can even pull up a car in line without their instructor (or another licensed driver). We will manage somehow as it is a great opportunity for new drivers!

The ladies school was my first CSCC event. I had owned a Miata and was browsing Miata.net when I saw this posting for the ladies school. It sounded like fun so I asked my daughter Stacy if she would like to attend. I had a feeling she would do well as our ouly previous experience was at a Cadilac sponsored car event that had a short timed autox participants could try in a CTS I believe. We both beat the "celebrity" time to beat, won prizes and had fun so I figured she'd really take to this.
Stacy turned out to be quite a good driver. I remember borrowing a helmet and climbing in the passenger seat to see what she had learned. I remember going through a Chicago box thinking WOW! But when she continued to accelerate toward a 80 degree left hander I remember my death grip as I yelled out SLOW DOWN!!!!! Well, she did lift as she expertly made the left and said "relax dad". The next day we returned for a pracitice day. By the end of the day, all I was thinking about was what could I do to the car to make it faster. I still remember the smiles on all the ladies faces plastered ear to ear.
I you have a daughter, wife, female friend or special someone, this is an inexpensive gift they will never forget. To this day my daughter and I and others I have sponsored into the ladies school sitll reminise about their first autox. If you haven't done so already, find someone to create a memory with and get them signed up.

How can I pay for this event?
Do I need to create a new account for my gf (who of course is not SCCA member), or there is a way to bill it to my account?
I just hate filling up forms }:)

Go here Chris to register.

You will need to fill out a form but it's easy. When you get to the money part, you'll be asked to purchase a temporary SCCA membership for $15 for her. Everything can be done online.
