TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 5, 2008) – As the 2008 Tire Rack® Solo National Championships approach, the Sports Car Club of America has announced the addition of The Last Chance Championship, a fundraiser to be held during Heat Five on Thursday/Friday.
The Last Chance Championship is open to all competitors in the Tuesday/Wednesday group, with an entry cap of 120. The group will be spilt into two balanced classes, Index A and Index B, and will compete using the PAX/RTP index (Click here to learn more). The top 10 in each class of this for-fun-only event will receive a special trophy at the awards banquet on Friday night.
Registration opens at noon (CDT) on August 13th. Entry for the event is $90 with half of the fee going to the Solo program, a quarter going to the SCCA Foundation for the Tire Rack Street Survival teen driving program and a quarter to the Marine Corp Toys for Tots program. There are no refunds. Competitors in The Last Chance Championship will be required to work a shift on Thursday/Friday. A link to this special event is located on the Solo National Championships page at
http://www.scca.com/solo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Registration for The Last Chance Championship will close on August 20 at noon (CDT).
Test N Tune participants will also have the opportunity to give back to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. Registering for the Test N Tune on Sunday, September 15, costs $28.82 for three runs, but a toy or $10 donation to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots will earn competitors an additional run. Test N Tune participants can make their runs anytime they wish between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., but must work a one hour shift during the day. Spots for the Test N Tune are filling up quickly; to register or learn more, visit the Solo National Championships event page at
http://www.scca.com/solo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I'm wondering how this could be during heat five, unless there were only going to be 4 heats, since 60 cars is a full heat... Sounds interesting but somehow I doubt it will be fully subscribed.

Don't forget to register before the late fees kick in!
From Supp Regs:
Entries must be received by 4:00 p.m. CST, August 21, 2008 to avoid the $75 late fee. A $150 late fee will be assessed for entries received after September 5, 2008.

I would do the Last Chance if STS EVER ran Tues-Wed. But we are permanently stuck on Thurs-Fri to accomodate chief's schedules. Any other classes get that treatment??? Other than CP at Forbes because of their propensity to destroy the surface.
Every year at Nationals I drive so poorly or something goes wrong... I'm always desperate for a mulligan.

At least you should beat your co-driver this year...

Now if my co-driver would get in the trophies, and I beat him.... Now that would be almost as cool at the debauchery planned for Friday night.

If your co-driver gets in the trophies, Friday night's debauchery should include fire trucks, hopsitals and, if we're really lucky, wiring for bail money

Solo National Tour contingency registration does not include the Solo National Championships. Competitors must register each year to compete for Solo National Championships contingency awards. Failure to comply with ALL requirements will result in non-payment of awards.

Keep your eyes on the GP Class registration. Several SoCal Cal Club Nationals "Novices" are being asked to co-drive cars in this class....probably because our reputation is geting around and we are known to not be a threat to anyone!
If things work out, looks like fun.

Wow, 8 entrants in GP, and none of the trophy winners from last year entered yet. In fact, only one of the top 6. The "locals" are sand-bagging.

No, we don't destroy the surface. CP is traditionally run last to accomodate the "CP Parade", post competition.

Since you guys are going, I may as well also. Now I need a co-driver (pusher) or whatever.

I would be happy with finishing the one run---a bit better than some of the other outings......

But, there's a bunch of good reasons ;) ---I really have nothing better to do---want to go and watch ya-all anyway---the motorhome only has 22000 miles on it in 5 yrs---the gas will be less than $4 a gallon---my wife said I could
Steve, when are you leaving for Packwood---we're (wife, grand-daughter, car) going up to visit my family. Leaving Wednesday!

If they ran Tue-Wed, we'd see all of them doing the Sangria Stagger for the rest of the week.
