Hi Everyone,
Just thought I'd let those who are interested know that we just set a date for an autocross on Nellis AFB. It will be on 8 May 2011. See our forums for more information as it becomes available. Registration will be on Motorsportsreg.com when the time comes. If you have any questions, please email me.

Is this a nice site? Sorry, but I'm not familiar with this site - it's near the speedway, right?

It's an Air Force Base, i.e., lots of concrete. Yes, other side of N Las Vegas Blvd from the speedway and a little closer to Vegas.

It's a little bit of a tap dance to gain access to the site, you must register well ahead of time. Since it is an active base, you must submit you personal information including DL and insurance info. Trailered vehicles must enter through a different gate so they can be inspected.
It's a good size chunk of concrete that I would say is fairly abrasive since it is not seasoned from our use. Grip is good when the dust is cleared.
We were treated to a mini airshow with planes conducting practice exercises not far from where we were...very cool when they hit the afterburners.
The end of the day "Foreign object walk" is kind of fun, everyone walks a line to pick up every piece of debris to prevent their inhalation by a turbine.

We don't know which gate the trailered cars will have to go through. In the past it has been Area 2. If you have access to a military installation (have an ID card) then you can enter the back gate off Nellis. If your car is not trailered, then you go through the back gate, usually. They did throw us a curve one time and sent those through the main gate. As more info becomes available, I will post it here. Do register early as it is limited to only 150 preregistered. Again, if you can access a military installation, you don't have to preregister since you have access to the base. Only civilians have to preregister and be put on the access list. I don't preregister since hubby is retired. We can get on base no problem and I don't want to take a spot from a civilian.

Registration will be about 3 weeks before the event. When it opens I will let everyone here know. Or you can watch for it on Motorsportsreg.com.
